Bayern bests Buducnost in regular season finale

FC Bayern Munich kept Buducnost VOLI Podgorica winless on the season with an 80-66 victory that concluded play in Group C. Bayern finished second with a 6-2 record, while Buducnost goes home at 0-8. Although the game could not have impacted either team in the standings, it was hard fought. The visitors battled from 16 down to get within 3 in the fourth quarter, but Bayern responded to take its third straight win. Maxi Kleber made 4 of 5 three-pointers for 14 points to lead the winners. Nihad Djedovic added 13 points and Devin Booker and Ondrej Balvin scored 12 each. J.R. Reynolds led Buducnost with 17 points and Suad Sehovic scored 10 in defeat.

Both teams had some runs in a first quarter that finished even 16-16. The lead continued to swing back and forth in the second quarter; Booker scored 4 points in a 7-0 run that made it 30-26 and Kleber added a three just before the break that made it 36-31 at halftime. Suad Sehovic opened the second half with a triple that brought Buducnost within 2, however Balvin and Kleber led an 11-0 Bayern charge that put the hosts in control. Kleber remained hot as the difference grew to 54-40. The margin reached 16 before Nemanja Vranes scored to end the quarter at 58-44. Vranes opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer and was later fouled shooting a triple; he made the resulting 3 free throws to close within 60-56. Reynolds further reduced the gap to 3 with a three-pointer, but Bayern responded with an 8-0 run in which Djedovic scored 8 points to restore a double-digit lead and the hosts cruised the rest of the way.

"I am not sure how much the result of the game between Zenit and Unicaja influenced the players’ concentration going into this game, but the effort was always there. Buducnost came without anything to lose, just to get better with its new coach. They are introducing some new players, like Klassen, a real fighter who brought character to that team. They came out to play, which turned into one good game for us, and in the end, a good win. We had a couple of runs, we went up by 16, and even had the same margin in the last minute. We controlled the game all the time, but it was a good game for what we are expecting moving forward. Our focus already has to go towards the Top 16. Individually, we gave some minutes to some players who did not play much lately, like Djedovic and Balvin, who responded well."

"Bayern is a really good team with a very good coach. It was a very good test for us; I believe my players tried very hard. We made mistakes, and now we have to use extra time we will have to improve and get better. I wish all the best to Bayern for the rest of the season.
