Nemanja Bjelica - Crvena ZvezdaCrvena Zvezda took another step towards reaching the quarterfinals on Wednesday with a 67-89 blowout win of Turk Telekom on the road in Ankara, Turkey. Crvena Zvezda displayed a well-balanced attack that featured six scorers in double figures, led by Oliver Stevic, Filip Videnov and Nemanja Bjelica with 15 points apiece. Crvena Zvezda improved to 3-0 at the midway point of Last 16 Group L and hosts Telekom in the Serbian capital in two weeks. Telekom dropped to 0-3 and must win soon to keep nay hope alive of a quarterfinal berth. Telekom started strong scoring the game’s first 6 points and leading by as many as 8 in the opening quarter. Serkan Erdogan’s second three of the game made it 20-14 early in the second quarter, however Vuk Radivojevic made a pair of three-pointers in a 0-15 Crvena Zvezda charge that put the visitors ahead for good. Crvena Zvezda led 30-40 at halftime and extended the lead to 20 early in the fourth quarter. It would peak at 61-86 in the closing minutes as head coach Aleksandar Trifunovic’s men celebrated a big road win. Radivojevic and Vladimir Stimac added 12 points each and Mike Taylor scored 11 for the winners. Bjelica also dished 6 assists and Radivojevic 5 for Crvena Zvezda. Erdogan scored a Eurocup career-high 19 points for Telekom, Kris Lang added 12 and Lamayne Wilson 10.

Things went well for Telekom at the start as the hosts won the tip and Wilson scored the game’s opening basket and then Tutku Acik’s steal resulted in Erwin Dudley free throws. Dudley made it 6-0 before Taylor got Crvena Zvezda on the scoreboard. Wilson and Lang both got Telekom as far ahead as 8 points, but Crvena Zvezda pushed back. Stevic scored twice inside as the visitors narrowed the gap to 12-10. Erdogan answered with a three-pointer only to see Stimac net free throws and score on the offensive glass to get Crvena Zvezda within 17-14 after 10 minutes. Erdogan drilled a second three to open the second quarter, but that was followed by four minutes of Telekom silence as Crvena Zvezda pulled ahead. Videnov and Radivojevic hit back-to-back tripled to tie the score at 20-20. Stimac corrected his own miss to give Crvena Zvezda its first lead. Stimac and Videnov eachs cored another basket before Radivojevic connected from downtown to cap a string of 15 unanswered points that gave the visitors a 20-29 lead. Demond Mallet ender the Telekom drought, but Stevic soon had Crvena Zvezda up by double figures and Bjelica stretched it to 13. Erdogan and Wilson helped Telekom back to minus-9 before Bjelica’s free throw made it 30-40 at the break.

Acik penetrated to score for himself and the to assists Lang as Telekom came out for the second half fighting. Taylor scored twice, but Erdogan hit a deep three to bring his team within 39-44. Another Erdogan triple moments later made it a 4-point game, but Stevic on the offensive glass and Marko Keselj’s steal and slam put Crvena Zvezda ahead 44-52. Wilson missed a follow-up slam and Bjelica and Keselj capitalized on the other end to restore the visitors’ double-digit lead. Keselj soon drilled a triple and Radivojevic added an acrobatic scoop in the lane to cap a 1-9 push that extended the lead to 47-61. After a Telekom timeout, Bekir Yaranhume sank a triple from the corner, but before long Bjelica matched him, Videnov made another and Acik missed at the buzzer, leading Crvena Zvezda on top 51-67 at the end of the third quarter. Radivojevic’s penetration and Zidenov’s jumper extended the lead to 20 as Crvena Zvezda looked to put the game away. An Acik basket did little to change to momentum as the visitors continued to score, stretching the lead to 25 at one point on a Bjelica three, en route to a convincing road win.

"We have lost two home games and made our job very difficult. Now we will concentrate on the Turkish League and cup. We are playing bad basketball."
TRIFUNOVIC, ALEKSANDAR
Crvena Zvezda
"To tell you the truth, before the game I did not expect such a Turk Telekom. We are a very different and a young team. Turk Telekom's business is now very difficult. I wish them luck in the next games."

Players

BESOK, HUSEYIN
Turk Telekom
"Today as a team we played bad. We were unable to use our home-court advantage and did not play good defense. We must do on the road what we could not do at home. Intense games still await us. We have to be ready mentally and physically. If we look back, we will not succeed."
