Ferdinand Zylka - U18 ALBA Berlin - Final Four Berlin 2016 - EB15

U18 ALBA Berlin collected its first victory at the EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Finals by beating U18 Lietuvos Rytas 94-86 in the final game of group play. Ferdinand Zylka scored 28 points as ALBA improved to 1-2 in Group B and thereby also keeping Lietuvos Rytas from reaching the ANGT Championship Game - and sending U18 Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade to the ANGT Championship Game against U18 FC Barcelona Lassa. Louis Olinde collected 19 points and 8 rebounds while Filip Stanic picked up 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Bennet Hundt scored 12 points for the winners. Philipp Herkenhoff also chipped in 9 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in the win. Lietuvos Rytas, which would have reached the final with a win, dropped to 1-2 despite Aistis Pilauskas scoring 24 points. Grantas Vasiliauskas picked up 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists while Matas Jogela had 13 points and Tadas Vaiciunas added 11 points.

Hundt started the game with a three-point play with Karolis Giedraitis hitting first for Lietuvos Rytas. Vasiliauskas hit two baskets and Vaiciunas’s 2 free throws gave the Lithuanian team its first lead at 7-8. Four straight points by Olinde put ALBA back ahead 11-8 before Jogela made it 11-12. Olinde continued his strong game with a three-point play and Zylka’s 2 foul shots made it 16-12. But it was Lietuvos Rytas which was ahead after 10 minutes as Vasiliauskas converted a three-point play and Pilauskas hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for a 21-22 lead. Pilauskas opened the second quarter with a long ball to extend the lead to 4 points but Stanic tallied 4 points and Herkenhoff hit a three-pointer in a 9-0 ALBA run for a 30-28 lead. Jogela and Paulius Poska answered with three-balls and Pilauskas followed his teammates’ lead with three triples of his own - the last one of which he converted for a four-point play to move had 35-41. Olinde’s 5 straight points got ALBA to within 40-41 but Vaiciunas converted two free throws and scored a basket off an unsportsmanlike foul call and Pilauskas added 3 more free throws as the Lithuanian side was up 40-48. ALBA would not go down without a fight as Olinde scored again and Jonas Mattisseck made it 45-48 at intermission with a three-ball.

ALBA started the second half with a 10-1 run as both Zylka and Hundt knocked down long balls to push the host side ahead 55-49. Vasiliauskas stopped the spurt and Vaiciunas made it 56-55. But Hundt scored 4 straight points to start a 9-0 surge to make it 65-55, during which Pilauskas picked up his fourth foul at the 3:42 minute mark of the third quarter. Zylka finished off the scoring in the quarter with a three-pointer as ALBA was leading 72-60 after 30 minutes. Pilauskas hit 2 free throws to start the fourth quarter and Vaiciunas and Giedraitis both knocked down three-pointers to trim the deficit to 76-72. Zylka answered with a triple and the gap was 80-72. Hundt’s jumper had ALBA up 82-74 and Olinde made a big block on Jogela and then converted at the other end for an 84-75 lead with just over a minute to play. Lietuvos Rytas tried to get back into the game by fouling ALBA players but Zylka converted 8-of-8 free throws in the final 1:05 minutes to help secure the victory.
