Panionios On Telecoms rejoined the fight to reach the ULEB Cup elimination rounds in Group G by edging EnBW Ludwigsburg 77-85 on the road on Wednesday. Panionios improved to 2-3 and is fifth in the Group G standings. Meanwhile, Ludwigsburg dropped to 0-5 and is sixth in this group. Ioannis Kalampokis paced the winners with 22 points on 8-for-9 two-pointers and 4 steals. Brad Newley added 20 while young forward Dusan Sakota and veteran center Giannis Giannoulis each had 17 for Panionios. Brandon Woudstra led Ludwigsburg with 19 points on 9-for-9 free throws while Coleman Collins added 16 for the hosts, that got their last lead at 8-7. A 0-8 run that Newley capped with a basket put Panionios ahead for good, 11-15. Ludwigsburg trailed from that moment, as even it managed to get within 25-31 midway through the second quarter, Newley and Kalampokis allowed Panionios to boost its lead to 33-47 at the break. Giannoulis and Sakota kept pacing Panionios in the third quarter, allowing the guests to keep a 47-60 margin after 30 minutes. Ludwigsburg managed to get within 62-69 but Giannoulis scored twice inside while Sakota buried a triple to seal the outcome, 64-76. Panionios held off the hosts' rally in the final seconds and registered an important win.

Ronnie Ross got Ludwigsburg going with consecutive baskets, as Panionios struggled to score for almost 3 minutes until Giannoulis made a free throw. Collins stepped up for the hosts with back-to-back layups but Giannoulis and Newley kept Panionios close, 8-7. Ross buried one from downtown but Giannoulis singlehandedly tied the game at 11-11. Brad Newley capped a 0-8 run that gave Panionios its first lead, 11-15. Michel Ferreira scored inside but free throws by Sakota and a final basket by Kalampokis kept Panionios ahead, 15-19, after 10 minutes. Panionios kept rolling early in the second quarter, as Newley followed a jumper with a three-pointer to boost the guests' lead to 18-26. Ludwigsburg called timeout and found a go-to guy in Anthony Richardon but Newley stayed on fire. Harris managed to get the hosts within 25-31 but Kalampokis shined with 5 quick points, good for a 27-36 Panionios margin. Levon Kendall made free throws and Kalampokis scored again, igniting a 0-8 run in which Newley had 5 points, including a big triple that boosted the guests' lead to 33-47 at halftime. Kalampokis and Giannoulis kept pacing Panionios with 4 points each right after the break, enough for the guests to extend their margin to 37-54. Prewitt fired in a three-pointer but Sakota immediately answered from downtown. Collins and Woudstra fueled a 5-0 run that only got Ludwigsburg within 45-57. Sakota sank another triple while a final basket by Woudstra got Ludwigsburg within 47-60 after 30 minutes. Jason Dourisseau stepped up with consecutive baskets early in the fourth quarter and scored again for a 53-62 Ludwigsburg deficit. Kalampokis stayed on fire, however, while Newley hit a triple to keep Panionios out of trouble, 56-67. Dourisseau and Nils Mittman gave the hosts some hope, 62-69, with 5 minutes to go. Giannoulis silenced the crowd with back-to-back layups while Sakota sealed the outcome with another triple, 64-76. Ludwigsburg did not recover and Panionios cruised to an important win.
