Cameron Long - Ratiopharm Ulm - EC13 (photo Asvel Villeurbanne)Ratiopharm Ulm led from start to finish, handling Asvel Villeurbanne Lyon 60-78 for its fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday. Win keeps Ulm atop of the Group C standings with 5-1 record, while Asvel drops to 3-3. The visitors took control at the start of the game with 5-18 lead, and they never looked back. Asvel did not manage to bring the deficit down to single digits, and Ulm cruised to an important away victory, sweeping Asvel this season, and making another big step towards a place in the Last 32. Cameron Long paced the winners with 19 points, Adam Hess scored 12, and Per Guenther netted 10 with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Uche Nsonwu finished with 13 points for the hosts, and Travis Leslie scored 9 in defeat.

Ulm to the lead from the start with triples on the first two trips down the floor from Guenther and Long. Hess and Jonathan Maier added a couple of baskets each, before Keaton Nankivil made it 5-18. Thomas Larrouquis scored twice and Paccelis Morlende triple helped the hosts halved the deficit, but Matt Howard ended quarter with a three-pointer for 14-26. Howard made two easy layups early in the second, extending it to 16-32. On the other end, Nsonwu scored twice inside, and also sunk a jumper, but a triple from Philipp Schwethelm, a dunk from Will Clyburn, and a jumper from Daniel Theis made it 22-39. The hosts did manage to hold Ulm to only one field goal during 4 minutes late in the second quarter, and during that span Nsonwu made 7of 9 free throws, cutting it to 34-44 at halftime. Right after the break, Long and Edwin Jackson traded three-pointers, before layups from Long and Guenther, plus a put-back from Hess, extended it to 39-55. Jackson hit another one from downtown for the hosts, but a dunk from Theis and a triple from Long kept them at bay, and Ulm held 46-62 after three quarters. In the fourth, Chris Wright sunk a triple, and Amara Sy a two-point shot. But Howard and Long scored layups, before threes from Guenther and Hess extended it to 53-72, sealing the deal.

Asvel Villeurbanne Lyon
"We are less talented than Ulm. And to control a team like this, we ought to play more intensively from the beginning. We let them play their game, they gained confidence and it became very, very difficult for us… We were dominated in each part of the game. We fought with our strength, but we didn't respect enough what we prepared for the game. I'm just focused on the next game and I'm not interested by the other games."
LEIBENATH, THORSTEN
Ratiopharm Ulm
"We didn't expect to win from 18 points, especially without two of our main players. I'm very happy with our strong defense. I'm proud because we had to struggle a lot with that point in [the German League]. It allows us to be more efficient offensively. We played a very good game, with tough shots and spectacular dunks. Asvel has a good chance to reach the next round and we are now two games ahead of them. We wish them all the best for the future."
