Lottomatica Roma won the seventh spot in the Citta di Roma tournament following a 70-74 overtime win over Benetton Fribourg on Tuesday noon in Rome, Italy. Both teams finished last in their groups and played to avoid the last spot in the final standings of the tournament, which is the first of four qualifying games to decide four tickets to the Nike International Junior Tournament to be held during the 2010 Euroleague Final Four in Paris, France. Fribourg enjoyed the better start but saw Lottomatica take the lead until the break. A close second half finished with a tied score, and set the overtime on, before a pair of three point baskets by Lottomatica in the extra period set a difference enough to decide the match. Alessandro di Pasquale led Lottomatica with 16 points, Valerio Staffieri added 15 with 7 rebounds and Riccardo Ferrarese scored 11. Stefan Petkovic led Fribourg with 28 points and 7 boards, followed by Brian Savoy who wrote a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds and Milos Bozovic who reached 15 points himself.
Fribourg used a late first quarter run to take a 16-26 lead as Petkovic combined from close and far distance, but Lottomatica used good minutes by Stefano Valerio and tough defense to write a 15-0 run and march to the break with a 33-32 lead. A close second half showed a maximum of a five point lead in favor of Lottomatica, but Fribourg tied to 57-57 to force overtime. Lottomatica connected back-to-back three pointers to make the overtime 7-0 run, enough to leave Fribourg without answers, on the way to the seventh spot.
