In a battle between two classic Eurocup teams in Group E, Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem defeated Lukoil Academic Sofia 84-76 in the Holy City on Wednesday. Art Parakhouski led the winners with 21 points on 10-of-14 two-pointers and 8 rebounds. Yotam Halperin and Derwin Kitchen each added 14 points while Ronald Dupree had 10 for Hapoel. Kitchen added 9 assists. Filip Videnov led Lukoil with 17 points. Davin White added 16 while Aleksandar Yanev had 10 for the guests. Hapoel had a strong start and a three-pointer by Halperin gave the hosts a 21-10 margin. A rain of three-pointers allowed Lukoil to return to the game and get its first lead, 26-27. It was a close battle from that moment, as the fourth quarter saw as many as 6 lead changed. In the last of it, Parakhouski gave Hapoel a 71-70 lead with more than 4 minutes remaining.

Parakhouski scored twice early in the game and a three-point play by Dupree gave Hapoel a 7-2 lead. A layup by Yaniv Green soon boosted his team's lead to double digits, 14-4. Jure Lalic and White stepped up for Lukoil but Hapoel kept rolling and a triple by Halperin made it an 11-point game, 21-10. Alando Tucker and Videnov brought Lukoil within 21-15 after 10 minutes. Lukoil started to find open shots early in the second quarter and three-pointers by Dimitrios Verginis and White gave the guests their first lead, 26-27. Kitchen briefly put Hapoel back ahead, 36-35, but White and Bozhidar Avramov restored a 36-39 Lukoil edge at halftime. Videnov started to score fluently after the break but Parakhouski and an outstanding Kitchen allowed Hapoel to tie the game, 46-46. Videnov stayed on fire but he didn't find help around. Meanwhile, three-pointers by Zack Rosen and Halperin and a dunk by Dupree gave the hosts a 61-55 edge after 30 minutes. Lukoil did not give up, as Yanev and White helped the guests to regain the lead, 63-66, after a 2-11 run. The fourth quarter saw as many as 6 lead changes but Parakhouski put Hapoel ahead for good, 71-70, with over 4 minutes to go. Adam Ariel shined with a key basket and Hapoel kept feeding Parakhouski, who added 7 of his team's final 11 points to make sure the hosts cruised to a big win.

Head Coaches

GREENBERG, BRAD
Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem
"It was a very good game for us; it was a very physical game. In the first half our defense was not good enough and they got a lot of offensive rebounds. In the second half our defense improved and we took more rebounds. Yotam Halperin is a good player. He didn’t play a lot against Ashdod [in the Israeli League] because he had just returned from injury. Today he had a good game and played a lot of minutes. He played aggressive and I hope that he will continue this way because he is an important player for our team. Adam Ariel is a very special player; he works hard in practice and his defense is at a very high level."
KOSTIC, OLIVER
Lukoil Academic Sofia
"Congratulations to Hapoel. They played better tonight. It seemed like Hapoel played with six players tonight that were jumping everywhere. In the second half our defense was softer than in the first half. Parakhouski had a great game tonight and he was the key to their victory. There are still plenty more Eurocup games this season and we will try to correct our mistakes in the coming games. "

Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem
"I’m happy that we won in our first Eurocup game of the season in front of our fans. We played with great intensity in the second half and we managed to build a lead that lasted until the end. We have excellent players that contributed a lot, like Art Parakhouski, and we will travel next week with the aim of winning again. "
