Mike Scott - BG Goettingen (photo bggoettingen.de - Christian Reinhard )Another first-time participant in the Eurocup, German representative BG Goettingen, is going to the Quarterfinals after holding onto a 77-83 road win at Le Mans on Tuesday to become the first team to advance from Group J. Goettingen raised its record to 4-1 while Le Mans was eliminated at 2-4. Goettingen will still need to defeat Budivelnik at home next week, to finish first in the group and therefore play the second game of the total-points quarterfinals series at home. On Tuesday, Goettingen took over the scoreboard with a 3-11 second-quarter run and withstood a late rally by Le Mans with another 0-7 burst of scoring. Mike Scott paced the winners with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Dwayne Anderson added 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Trent Meacham put up 14 points. Alex Acker posted 18 points for Le Mans, while Ben Dewar and Charles Kahudi had 12 each.

Antoine Diot and Michalis Kakiouzis put Le Mans in front early with triples to which Thierry Rupert soon added 3 points the hard way to make it 11-6. Goettingen got behind big guns Scott and Meeks to quickly tie before Trent Meacham buried a go-ahead triple for the visitors' first lead. Le Mans reeled it back with Ben Dewar and Marc-Antoine Pellin scoring the first quarter's last 7 points to put the hosts back in front, 22-19. Goettingen made another run to start the second quarter, with Scott dunking to retake the lead, which reached as high as 26-30 on a triple by Meeks. Again, Le Mans reeled it back, with Kahudi's three-pointer tying it 32-32, but this time Goettingen refused to give up the lead. Louis Dale, just on the floor, buried a triple then assisted John Litte for another, igniting a 3-11 run that gave the visitors their biggest lead yet, 35-43, forcing a Le Mans timeout. Acker drilled a three-pointer out of the chat and Pellin added a layup, but Meacham finished the half at the free throw line with Goettingen still in charge, 40-45.

The duo of Scott and Meacham balanced the scoring of the Le Mans trio of Kahudi, Acker and Kakiouzis until Anderson and Antoine Jordan detonated back-to-back triples for a 46-55 score midway through the third quarter. Meeks added a layup for the game's first double-digit lead, 46-57. Le Mans slowly crawled back, however, as 3 points each by Joao Batiste and Dewar set up free throws by Brandon Bowman that cut the difference to 57-62 after 3 quarters. Le Mans kept chasing into the final quarter, cutting the difference to 3 points at 61-64 on back-to-back layups by Rupert. Then, Acker did him one better, erupting for back-to-back triples to suddenly tie it again, 67-67. Layups by Little and Jason Boone were all that fell during 3 minutes before Anderson and Diot traded triples. This time, however, Robert Kulawick was ready with another for Goettingen, and Anderson then dunked to make it 70-79 in the game's next-to-last minute - effectively a 13-point lead, considering Le Mans would have had to win by 4 to stay alive. It was just not to be: a new Eurocup representative, BG Goettingen, was advancing this year to the Quarterfinals!

Head Coaches

JACKSON, JD
Le Mans
"Before coming here, Goettingen had two chances to qualify. It was not an easy situation. It was not easy to win with the 13 balls we lost in the first period. But at the end of the game, we were level. It was playable, we had energy. At that moment we chose to play with small players because we knew that we had to win by more than 5, but we failed. We finish the competition as we did last year, but we will stay positive."
PATRICK, JOHN
Goettingen
"Both teams were very concentrated. We can see the percentage in the free throws. We had problems to control their three-point shots, but we were lucky with the shots at the end. Also, we neutralized JP Batista with success. We are very happy to have won this game against of a strong team. "

Players

KAHUDI, CHARLES
Le Mans
"The Eurocup is finished for us. We have to think of the French championship now. We lost that game because of details like turnovers. And against a team that play very fast. It was difficult. The game was very intense in the first quarter. Goettingen was better than us tonight."
ANDERSON, DWAYNE
Goettingen
"We are qualified, but for the next game we are going to play as if we are not qualified. It was a tough game and we are very happy with the result. The keys to the game were to play hard for 40 minutes and to control rebounds. We did it. "
