U18 Movistar Estudiantes Madrid picked up third place at the EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Qualifying Tournament Coin with a 68-56 victory over U18 Real Betis Energia Plus Seville. Pablo Suarez led the way for Estudiantes with 16 points and 5 assists while Andriy Grystsak collected 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Betis was paced by Andrzej Pluta with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

Alex Tamayo and Suarez both knocked down three-pointers to get Estudiantes ahead 10-2 early on. Pluta hit for his sixth point for Betis in pulling the gap to 10-6 but Hector Alderete drained two three-pointers as the cushion extended to 18-11. And a three-point play from Grystsak made it 21-15 after 10 minutes. Betis failed to score for the first 4 minutes of the second quarter and Tamayo and Suarez were both on target again from long range for a 31-15 advantage. Pluta finally got Betis on the board with a three-pointer only to see Suarez’s five points give Estudiantes a 36-18 lead. Betis was able to cut the margin down to 10 points - 38-28 - but Estudiantes was leading 42-30 at the break. Tomas Balciunas picked up six points in helping trim the gap to 44-36. But Estudiantes was able to keep Betis at bay thanks also to a Victor Martinez three-pointer with the lead being 52-41 after 30 minutes. Betis gave one more push in the fourth quarter with Pluta and Cayetano Abreu both hitting three-pointers to make it 57-52. But Betis failed to score a basket for more than 5 minutes and Diego Alderete hit five points to make it 67-54 inside the final minute.
