Tomas Satoransky - Cajasol SevillaCajasol Sevilla made it to the Eurocup Finals! Cajasol sealed its ticket to Treviso, Italy and will keep fighting for Eurocup glory despite an 80-77 road loss against Budivelnik on Tuesday. Cajasol had registered a 67-49 win in Game 1 and won the two-way, total-point series by a long margin. Denys Ikovlev and Dee Spencer paced the winners with 12 points apiece. Billy Keys, Zach Morley and Andy Betts each added 10 for Budivelnik. Txemi Urtasun led Cajasol with 15 points. Louis Bullock and Kaloyan Ivanov each added 14 while Juanjo Triguero got 12 for the guests, that keep beating all expectations in their Eurocup debut season. Urtasun and Paul Davis shined late in the first quarter to get Cajasol within 23-22 after 10 minutes. Lamayne Wilson and Morley fueled a 14-0 run that allowed Budivelnik to get its biggest lead, 40-30. A 0-12 run that bridged between both halves helped Cajasol to regain the lead, 40-42, and a fallaway jumper by an outstanding Bullock gave the guests a 54-56 edge after 30 minutes. Nothing changed from that moment, as Cajasol sealed the outcome and had plenty of time to celebrate arguably the sweetest loss in club history.

Spencer got Budivelnik going with a three-pointer but Bullock answered from downtown and Mindaugas Katelynas added a baseline jumper for a 3-5 Cajasol tie. Andriy Agafonov stepped up with a put-back basket and an alleyoop layup by Morley gave the hosts a 7-5 lead. Triguero followed a layup-plus-foul with a power basket to put the guests back ahead, 8-10. Betts made free throws but Urtasun bettered with a triple. Betts insisted from the foul line and an easy layup by Keys put Budivelnik back ahead, 14-13. Spencer struck from downtown and a dunk by Wilson forced Cajasol to call timeout, 19-13, after a 9-0 run. Urtasun rescued the guests with back-to-back jumpers and got some help from Davis to get Cajasol within 21-19. Betts hit more foul shots that Davis improved with a triple for a 23-22 Cajasol deficit after 10 minutes.

Denis Ikovlev - Budivelnik (photo Budivelnik)Ivanov buried a triple early in the second quarter and added a big basket in the low post for a 23-27 Cajasol lead. Dmytro Zabirchenko joined the three-point shootout but free throws by Ivanov kept the guests ahead, 26-30. Budivelnik tried to change the game rhythm with Lukashov at point guard and the hosts improved right away. Wilson buried a three-pointer and Morley took over with 5 unanswered points. Wilson insisted from downtown and even when Cajasol called timeout, Denys Ikovlev sank a triple that made it a double-digit game, 40-30, after a 14-0 run. Bullock tried to change things with free throws and a jumper, Triguero scored down low and a three-pointer by Urtasun kept Cajasol out of trouble, 40-39, as both teams headed back to the locker rooms.

Triguero split free throws immediately after the break, as Cajasol had started to run the game clock down. Ivanov buried a six-meter jumper that Spencer matched in the other end. Morley fired in one from downtown but a driving basket by Tomas Satoransky kept Cajasol within 45-44. Bullock nailed his second triple that Keys matched with a layup-plus-foul. Betts shined with a put-back basket and Spencer soon gave Budivelnik some hope at 52-47. Tariq Kirksay took over with his trademark jump hook and bettered Triguero's put-back layup with a three-pointer that forced the hosts to call timeout at 52-54. Agafonov stepped up with a second-chance layup that Bullock erased with a buzzer-beating fallaway jumper for a 54-56 score after 30 minutes.

Budivelnik needed a miracle comeback to return to the series but Satoransky buried a three-pointer that boosted Cajasol's lead to 54-59. Ikovlev answered from downtown and added a driving layup to tie it at 59-59. Bullock shined with a reverse layup in transition but Keys matched it with foul shots. Time was running out for Budivelnik, as Kirksay and Ikovlev traded baskets. Ivanov shined with a backdoor layup that sealed the outcome of the series. Both teams kept fighting for a prestigious win, however, as a wild three-point play by Urtasun and a bomb from downtown by Satoransky gave Cajasol a 68-71 edge. Lukashov and Spencer put Budivelnik back ahead, 75-73, with 1:40 left. A three-pointer by Lukashov allowed Budivelnik to win the game but all Cajasol players celebrated that their team have clinched a Eurocup Finals berth!

"Congrats to Cajasol. It was hard to think about such a great margin, so our game plan was to try to win in every quarters. And finally we managed to beat Cajasol in three periods. Also we worked on our offence. Today we scored 80 points and in Sevilla just 49. There we committed 28 turnovers and here – 12. I think the key in believing to recover 18 points was in the second period when we were up by 10 points and then let them fight back. Of course, this is a real success for our club. And like Cajasol we’ll try to grow up in the future step by step. Also I want to give respect and to congratulate my players because they made a really great effort to play all the EuroCup games away with a hard schedule in the Superleague."

"I am happier than I look. We managed to overcome all of our added problems tonight. Some coaches believe in star players, but my philosophy is built around the team. We went through tough times and injuries. My players felt important and I have to thank players like Louis Bullock and Paul Davis, who played with small injuries, risking their careers. Earl Calloway got injured in the same place that had him sidelined, but my players stepped up to replace him. We are proud to see that our good work is paying off. We play with powerhouses like Real Madrid, Regal FC Barcelona, Caja Laboral and Unicaja in Spain, but have managed to find our space in our country and also in Europe. This will be a unique experience. Our fans have to be proud of supporting Cajasol, respecting everyone. If we do that, the sky is the limit. We managed to be sixth in the Spanish League last season and made it to the Eurocup Finals now. If we keep working in this direction, we can compete for bigger goals in the future. If Calloway is able to play, we will be without him for some days. If not, we will reinvent ourselves. Injuries are part of this business and all Cajasol fans in Treviso will see a team giving their own life on court. Nobody will be disappointed with our effort."

"We tried to win this game, tried to recover 18 points. But obviously we lost this quarterfinal in Seville where we let them get too big a margin. And of course we lost too much in the third quarter tonight. We won, but that wasn’t enough to qualify."
URTASUN, TXEMI

"We are very happy about reaching the Eurocup Finals. Despite some injuries, we tried to reach this success. This is a very big success for our club and we’re looking forward to playing in Treviso."
