After Maxime Gaudoux scored the first Spirou basket, Mickael Pietrus nailed a three and Ben Sene hit another to make it 5-11. Loic Schwartz connected from downtown to close the gap to 1, before Sene countered with a basket-plus-foul. Schwartz’s second triple put the hosts ahead 15-14. Bell scored 5 in a 0-8 push, before Sacha Massot made it 17-22 after 10 minutes. Jordan Heath’s basket-plus-foul a pair of Jimmy Baron free throws had Spirou back within 2. Kitchen scored Nancy’s next 7 points as the visitors took the lead to 24-31. Billy Baron knocked down a pair of triples to bring the hosts within 30-33. Panko and Baron swapped three-point shots and a Sene three made it 36-43 with a minute left in the half. Schwartz was fouled shooting a three and made the resulting foul shots and Seamus Boxley scored to bring the hosts within 41-43 at halftime.

Boxley tied it with the first basket of the second half and a Gaudoux triple put the hosts ahead 48-47. Billy Baron and Kevin Tumba gave Spirou hope as the cut into the deficit. Another Billy Baron three-pointer made it 68-71, but Nancy reeled off the next 7 points thanks to 3 offensive rebounds and steals by Kitchen and Panko to claim a double-digit advantage. Billy Baron kept Spirou alive with a pair of threes to make it 74-79. Billy Baron continued to outgun the visitors, who missed several chances from the line in the final minute, but he missed his last two tries from downtown after Panko put Nancy up 81-86 and Nancy held on to win.

Head Coaches

STAS, JACQUES
Proximus Spirou Charleroi
"We basically ran out of energy tonight, which resulted in our problems in rebounding. In addition, Nancy shot very well from outside, which also put us in trouble. We scored 81 points, which should have been enough to win, but often the defense prevails in this kind of game. I regret that we did not start our European season at full strength, we'd probably have at least another victory."
WEISZ, ALAIN
SLUC Nancy
"The victory tonight is all the more significant in our current situation. We played hard despite the injuries. We lost Flo [Pietrus] for a few weeks and he is our best defender. But the team was united and we can get a fresh start in our league. Congratulations again to Spirou who kept the pressure all the way through its leader Billy Baron, who played a great game. But we deserved the victory and it is due in large part to our domination on the rebounds in the second half. Our Eurocup group was difficult, but we will play to the end. "

"I'm making progress and I felt better tonight. I arrived 10 days ago and I gradually found the pleasure of playing. Playing here reminded me of some distant memories. We came here to the Spiroudome with Pau in 2002 for the inauguration of the arena. Our team restarts to go forward even without Flo, our warrior. "
