But Dairis Bertans nailed two three-balls and Jahovics's basket cut the deficit to 26-20. Deane struck again and the Lukoil lead was 30-22 after one period. Da Rosa re-established the 10-point advantage to start the second only to have Bramlett score back-to-back baskets to make it a six-point game 34-28. But Tenchov Banev hit three buckets as the hosts kept Riga at a distance, leading 50-39 at the break. Sanders opened the second half with a score and Bramlett's basket and two foul shots trimmed the gap to 50-45. And Dwayne Broyles answered Riste Stefanov's three-pointer for a 53-48 score line. But that's where Lukoil blew the game open with a 21-6 run which included three treys by Antic and long-balls from Stoykov and Stefanov. Academic was ahead 75-57 going into the fourth. Deane re-established a 20-point margin to start the final period before back-to-back baskets by Raitis Grafs and Sanders made it 79-64. The gap was down to 84-70 after a technical foul on Antic resulted in two foul shots by Millage and a Bramlett basket. But Stoykov drained another long-ball and da Rosa hit two foul shots for an 89-70 lead and Riga did not get closer than 14 points the rest of the way in a 93-77 victory for the hosts.

"Today was one of our best games defensively. I am very pleased with the performance of the youngsters today. They even played better than I expected. The team of Riga is famous for their team defense. As far as I know no team managed to score more than 50 points in the first half of the game. They play very quick basketball. The key to our success tonight was the fact that we played as a team. I am very happy about Dimitar Phillipov and Chavdar Kostov's performance tonight. With that win we proved that we deservedly overplayed Kiev and Pau-Orthez. It was a good game. I would like to thank the supporters and the fans."

"I congratulate their team for the victory. It was a very good game. Lukoil played very quick and good defense. They also were rebounding like real soldiers under the baskets. We didn't play that good defensevely even not the way we were supposed to do it. We couldn't stop their pick and roll plays. My players couldn't show their full and real potential."
