A tough battle took place on Wednesday afternoon in Athens as hosting Panionios Athens managed to survive Spartak St. Petersburg by 76-69. The hosts managed to build a double-digit lead midway through the game, but in the third quarter Spartak reacted and tied the game to start the final period. In the end, Errick McCollum lifted Panionios for a valuable win. Panionios stands now at 4-3 in Group H, while Spartak drops to 2-5. McCollum led the way with 24 points and Landon Milbourne contributed with 14. Marc Carter also had 11 for Panionios. For Spartak, Steven Burtt had 26 points and Jared Homan and Donnie McGrath posted 16 apiece.

Panionios Athens started the game with the upper hand. Landon Milbourne, Marc Carter and Errick McCollum joined forces to boost the hosts to a double-digit lead, 22-11, in minute 8. With no points scored in the rest of the quarter, Panionios retained a good cushion. Spartak Saint Petersburg seemed to come alive in the second quarter as Jared Homan was the leading force in offense for the guests. However, things were far more balanced the rest of the time until the break. With 12 turnovers against 6 of the opponents, Spartak was not finding good ball circulation despite having also more assists. With Keving Langford and Homan exchanging baskets in the last possessions, the score showed 39-27 at the break. Spartak came back to the court as if it was another team. An early 5-13 burst including 9 points by Donnie McGrath made it 44-40 and Uros Duvnjak stopped the bleeding for the hosts but Spartak continued pushing hard until a 51-51 tie after three quarters. Spartak's turnovers were still a major source of problems and Panionios used it to build a small cushion of five points again, 62-57. The game entered the last five minutes, with Panionios staying ahead around the 5-point mark. Errick McCollum and Steven Burtt traded baskets for 69-65 entering the last minute. McCollum chipped in again with a three-point play that put the game in ice for the hosts.

Head Coaches

SFAIROPOULOS, IOANNIS
Panionios Athens
"Congratulations to our players. It was a very important win. My players gave a big effort in defense from the first minute of the game. We played very good defense in the first half and we stopped our opponents. In the third quarter, we lost our concentration, but at the end we had the courage to win the game. This win is a big step toward qualification, but nothing is done yet."
VETRA, GUNDARS
Spartak Saint Petersburg
"We lost the game at the second part of first period. We returned to the game at the third period, but we paid out a lot of energy. At the end we didnʼt have energy, we lost open shoots and free throws and we couldnʼt stop our opponents. Congratulations to Panionios. They gained a win that they deserved."
