Bennet Cantu topped Zalgiris 71-77

Bennet Cantu finished an impressive Turkish Airlines Euroleague season with a 71-77 road win over Zalgiris Kaunas at Zalgirio Arena on Wednesday. Manu Markoishvili scored a career-high 32 points to pace the winners, who improved to 3-3 in Top 16 Group H. Though both teams had been mathematically eliminated from the playoff race the week before, the game was close throughout. The hosts led 62-59 after Marko Popovic free throws midway through the fourth quarter. But Markoishvili knotted the score with a triple and then Giorgi Shermadini scored the game’s next 5 points as Cantu pulled away to record the victory. Shermadini finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Doron Perkins shined with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Popovic paced Zalgiris with 15 points and 5 assists, Milovan Rakovic tallied 14 points and 7 rebounds and Mantas Kalnietis scored 12 as Zalgiris bowed out of the Top 16 without a victory.
