In the opening game of the 34th edition of the Ciutat de L'Hopitalet Nike International Junior Tournament, Maccabi Tel aviv barely survived the host, CB L'Hospitalet, as the game ended with a close 69-70 edge for the Israeli team. Five Maccabi players scored in double digits led by Idan Zalmanson and his 16 points plus 10 boards, Eden Paas added 15, Ido Halifa 14, Gal Gelinski 12 and Itay Segev posted another double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. For Hospi, only Francesc Iturria scored in double digits with his 10 points. The game was a close deal throughout the 40 minutes, as neither team managed to build an important lead despite Maccabi's starting 0-8. The path of the game led the teams to a 53-49 Hospi edge after 30 minutes. Entering the last minute, Maccabi had managed to turn things around and was leading 66-69. Iturria's three tied teh game at 69-69 with 50 seconds to go. Both teams missed offenive plays in the next second until Zalmanson was fouled. In his trip to the line, he only scored the first attempt with just 2 seconds to go but Halifa grabbed the rebound after the miss and there was no time for more as Maccabi starts leading Group A with a 1-0.
