Baloncesto Seville opened the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT with a 73-62 victory over Galatasaray Istanbul in Group A in L’Hospitalet. Carlos Hidalgo paced Seville with 17 points and six assists while Jose Antonio Blazquez added 13 points and nine rebounds, Malik Eichler scored 12 points and Juan Oliva had 10 points for the winners. Seville, which won the Rome qualifying tournament last winter, beat Galatasaray despite missing its first 13 three-point shots and making just 2-of-18 (11 percent). Yasin Murat Unluturk paced Galatasaray with 15 points while Berkay Kansu collected 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals and Lazgin Emre Ozkanli added 12 points in a losing effort.

Unluturk and Ozkanli both scored six points as Galatasaray started strong and opened a 6-12 lead. Seville got back into the game and Blazquez cut the game to 14-15 and Eichler's dunk gave Seville a 16-15 lead, which was the score after 10 minutes. After an Eichler score to push the lead to 18-15, Ata Sarikan nailed a three to even the game at 18-18. After two more ties, Seville started to pull away with a Blazquez three-point play making it 30-24. And four points from Hidalgo increased the lead to 36-26 at the break.

After Oliva extended the cushion to 38-26, Unluturk knocked down two three-pointers to bring Galatasaray to within 41-36. Hidalgo had three assists and a layup as Seville pushed the lead to 49-36. Two Eichler scores left the Spanish club up 53-38. And the score was 55-43 after 30 minutes. Four straight points to start the fourth quarter gave Seville 59-43 advantage. Bahadir Simsek hit a three-pointer but Leo Cizmic answered right back with Seville’s first triple of the game and a 62-46 lead. The cushion was still 64-48 with 5:30 minutes to play after an Eichler basket. Galatasaray refused to give up as Kansu came up with a layup and two free throws to trim the margin to 64-58 with 3:20 minutes left. Hidalgo responded with a three-ball to make it 67-58. Three Kansu free throws and one from Unluturk cut it to 67-62 with 1:30 minutes to play, but Oliva came up with a layup and Hidalgo made four free throws in the final minute to decide the game.
