Le Mans Sarthe Basket downed Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck 65-44 to claim a share of third place in Group A along with CEZ Nymburk with 5-4 records. Le Mans will advance to the Last 32 by winning its next game in Oostende, or if both teams lose because of its tiebreak advantage over Nymburk. JP Batista scored 10 of his 15 points in the third quarter for Le Mans, while Reyshawn Terry added 9 points and Vaughn Dubbins chipped in 8. Kenneth Frease posted 10 for Artland and Chad Topper had 8.

Terry from downtown gave the first 9-4 margin to the home team, then in a first quarter dominated by defense, Topper tied the score at 11-11 by scoring from long distance with a second left. Alain Koffi scored 6 of 13 unanswered points by the home team to open the second quarter for a comfortable 24-11 margin. David Holston with a three kept the guests alive, but Issa Dounia’s put back made it 29-14 before he and Brandon Thomas exchanged jumpers and Frease dunk fixed the line at 33-18 for Le Mans at halftime. A Batista layup raised the cushion to 39-18 early in the third quarter and after Antonio Graves pulled down an offensive board to score, Batista posted three consecutive baskets in the paint for a 45-22 lead. Graves and Topper fueled the guests from beyond the arc to get within 49-30, but another three by Vaughn Duggins gave Le Mans a 52-30 cushion after 30 minutes. Frease free throws put Artland Dragons closer, 52-35, but a huge dunk by Pape Sy extended the margin to 59-35. An Acha Njei layup and a triple by Kevin Mendy fixed the final 65-44 for Le Mans.

Head Coaches

JACKSON, JD
Le Mans Sarthe Basket
"The job has been done tonight. Defensively we were ready and tough. Offensively we played good in transition. We knew two weeks ago that we would have to win three in a row to qualify. One victory is still missing and we’ll surely have to win in Ostend. It will be complicated because they beat us in Le Mans and they play to finish first in the group. We found our confidence in this game and we still have our destiny in our hands. Regarding our new player Torey Thomas, he played a good game."
McCOY, TYRON
Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck
"First congratulations to Le Mans. They played a good game and deserved to win. In the first quarter we were tied because of our good defense. But in the second we lost the game, they succeeded in transition and we couldn’t stop them. In offense it was terrible, 7 points in this second quarter! Le Mans found their rhythm in offense and defense and it was over. We never found our rhythm in offense."

Players

THOMAS, TOREY
Le Mans Sarthe Basket
"It’s good to play again. I’m a little tired of the travel, but I did what I could to help the team to win this important game. My teammates welcomed me really well and it’s like I’ve been here before. I felt like I knew them for months!"
FREASE, KENNETH
Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck
"It was a tough game for us. They played great defense and scored a lot in transition. It was hard to come back in the second half when a team like Le Mans plays at this level. We have to give something next week home even if we are eliminated to finish the competition with a good game."
