Telenet Oostende edged Cibona Zagreb 82-85 Wednesday for its seventh win in Group A. Oostende now shares first place with FoxTown Cantu, but the Italian team holds the tiebreaker between them. Ryan Thompson paced the winners with 18 points, 2 steals and 3 assists, Wes Wilkinson bagged 13 points, Quentin Serron had 12 with 4 assists, Jean Salumu collected 11 points and Dusan Djordjevic 10 in victory. Marko Jagodic netted 20 to lead Cibona, Dario Saric amassed 19 with 13 rebounds and 5 assists for an index rating of 27, while Jerrel Blassingame tallied 11 points.

A huge dunk by Saric tied the scoring at 6-6 before Pierre-Antoine Gillet’s layup gave a 6-14 lead to the visitors. Wes Wilkinson from downtown made it 11-19, then Matt Janning closed the gap to 20-25 before Brent Wright from mid range and Thompson from long distance fixed a double-digit margin, 20-30, at the end of the first quarter. Wilkinson’s three-point-play extended the difference to 25-37. A Blassingame deep three cut it to 32-38 at the midway point of the quarter. Salumu fueled Oostende from beyond the arc and Mateusz Ponitka from the foul line for another 36-47 advantage. Salumu and Blassingame exchanged threes to finish 47-54 at halftime. A Jared Berggren layup opened the third quarter for Oostende, but Cibona showed a strong desire to come back and used a 9-0 run to tie the score at 58-58 through Jagodik. A rocket from downtown by Saric put the home team in front on 61-60. Thompson’s jumper evened again the score at 65-65 as the quarter finished. Salumu’s deep three gave the first advantage of the last quarter to the guests. Four points in a row by Darko Planinic made it 71-68 for the home team. Wilkinson completed a run of 7 consecutive points for Oostende to make it 71-75, from which the visitors never looked back. A three-point-play completed by Serron sealed the win.
