Gerald Lee paced the Romanian champs with 13 points, Marius Runkauskas scored 12 and Jarvis Hayes 11 in defeat.

Kurbanov put Lokomotiv up by 6 with a three-pointer before Mohammed, with an assist to Lee and second-chance basket of his own made it 13-15. However Lokomotiv kept CSU Asesoft scoreless for the last three and a half minutes of the first quarter to take a 13-20 lead. Simon scored 5 points in a row to cap a 2-12 run for a 15-27 advantage. Delaney’s three-pointer and slam further boosted the difference to 15. Lee and Michalis Pelekanos reduced the deficit to 10. Lee further closed Asesoft within 28-36. Brown took charge in the final minutes of the half to give Lokomotiv a 32-42 advantage at the break.

Runkauskas free throws again brought Asesoft within 8, but Delaney and Kurbanov kept Lokomotiv in control. Later a Runkauskas triple made it 39-47 only to see Randolph answer from downtown. Baskets by Hendrix and Delaney boosted the difference to 15. Hayes heated up; back-to-back triples from Runkauskas and Hayes gave Asesoft confidence at 51-58. However Derrick brown scored the last 4 points of the third quarter and in starting a 0-11 Lokomotiv run. Lee ended the Asesoft drought, but before long Simon took the difference into the 20s at 53-74 and the lead continued to grow in the closing minutes as Lokomotiv chalked up a big road win.

Head Coaches

ARNAUTOVIC, VLADIMIR
CSU Asesoft Ploiesti
"It's not only about the defeat, but also the attitude of my players. We had an awful evening, even though we knew that we will play against a Euroleague team. Lokomotiv and Valencia probably will try to win the Euroup again, but this is not an excuse for our lack of attitude. We will try to make a good impression in Nancy, next week."
BAZAREVICH, SERGEY
Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar
"We started this phase of competition well, with an away victory, in front of a good team, who played strong for 30 minutes. We have some experienced players who made the difference in the fourth quarter, but I think our defense was the key of this game. We put pressure on the ball, we recovered many balls under the basket and we scored easy points on fastbreaks. I have worked with Dragan Labovic and Jarvis Hayes in Samara, they are very good players and I would like to congratulate them for their effort tonight. It's only the beginning, we have 1-0 record and we look forward to the next games."

Players

HAYES, JARVIS
CSU Asesoft Ploiesti
"We must forget this match as quickly as possible. I think those 26 points on the scoreboard it is not the real difference, but we made too many mistakes in front of such a powerful opponent. The last quarter was like a nightmare for us, but we must keep focused on the next game."
HENDRIX, RICHARD
Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar
"It's a well-deserved away win for us, which keeps me and my teammates with a strong moral before Minsk and Valencia, our two next opponents. We had a good game, especially in defense. We got many rebounds, which helped us take control and score easy baskets. We have one victory, Valencia has one also, but I think it's too early to make comparisons between the teams and to analyze our qualification chances. We take every game at a time and try to win."
