Adecco Asvel had an easy time on the road to defeat ULEB Cup debutante Ludwigsburg in Group G by 72-90. The French defense held the hosts to just 10 points in the fourth quarter and Chevon Troutman scored 19 points to lead four players in double digits. Lamayne Wilson had 16 and Uchenna Nsomwu added 14 off the bench. Asvel - quarterfinalists in 2006 - committed 18 turnovers but made up for that by shooting 54% from the field and out-rebounding the Germans 37-24. Brandon Woudstra led the Germans with 18 points while Ronald Ross had 15 in a losing effort.

Both sides started very well offensively with Asvel grabbing a 25-28 lead after one period. Ludwigsburg continued their strong game in the second and took advantage of the French mistakes in opening a 46-43 lead going into the break. Chad Prewitt made it a 49-43 game, but Laurent Foirest, Aymeric Jeanneau, Robert Conley and Wilson all buried three-pointers in a 7-22 run to give Asvel a 56-65 advantage. Ludwigsburg had cut the deficit to 62-68 after three periods. After Wilson's three-point play made it 64-75, Nis Mittmann trimmed the gap to 70-79 with four minutes left. But the French shut down the Germans with a 2-11 spurt to finish off the game.

Head Coaches

POROPAT, SILVANO
Ludwigsburg
"First of all congratulations to Lyon and Yves Baratet. We played a really good first half, but weren’t able to show this performance during 40 minutes. I’m sure that the ULEB Cup competition will help us during our long season to get better. Every minute of experience in this tournament is good for our young team."
BARATET, YVES
ASVEL Villeurbanne
"We built our team with 11 professionals, because we have four tournaments to play. Of course we have our ambitions in each of those tournaments. We want to do well on this cup. Ludwigsburg didn’t surprise me with their good performance especially in the first half. I’m satisfied with the performance of my team in the second half and of course I’m satisfied that my team won."

Players

WOUDSTRA, BRANDON
Ludwigsburg
"In the first half we shot really good, but Lyon played the whole game constant and did the things that had to do. That is why Lyon won this ULEB Cup game."
WILSON, LAMAYNE
ASVEL Villeurbanne
"I was very excited to come back to Ludwigsburg, where I used to play three years ago. Maybe that was the reason why I didn’t play well in the first half of the game. In second half I found my shot and played my game."
