Ronald Dupree - Hapoel Jerusalem - EC13 (photo CSU Asesoft - Mirela Oprea)Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem survived an impressive shooting display by Alhaji Mohammed to book its spot in the Last 32 with a 69-77 victory at CSU Asesoft Ploiesti. Josh Duncan led the way for Jerusalem with 16 points and 9 rebounds while Lior Eliyahu and Ronald Dupree both had 15 points and Derwin Kitchen chipped in 11 as the guests improved to 5-4 in Group E. CSU Asesoft dropped to 3-6 and was eliminated from the Last 32 despite Mohammed hitting 7 of 12 three-pointers and scoring 23 points. Rawle Marshall added 18 and Dragan Zekovic had 12 points while Gerald Lee collected 8 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Hapoel clearly won the rebounding battle, 43-27, to make up for hitting just 1 of 10 threes.

With CSU Asesoft up 5-2 early, Eliyahu scored 4 points in a 0-8 run for a 5-10 lead. Mohammed answered with his second three and while Marshall kept the hosts close, Mohammed nailed another triple to close to within 17-18. The Jerusalem lead was 17-21 after one quarter. A Marshall long ball had the hosts as close as 23-25 before Hapoel went on a 3-13 run for a 26-38 cushion. Mohammed and Zekovic got the deficit down to 6 points during the quarter, but Jerusalem led 35-43 at the intermission. After two Zekovic triples early in the second half, Lee trimmed the gap to 45-49. Jerusalem answered with the next 5 points for a 9-point margin before two more long balls from Mohammed had it down to 53-58. The lead was 53-60 after three quarters. In the final frame, Catalin Burlacu started the scoring to cut it back to 5 points. A Lee layup made it 61-64 with six minutes left. And it was still a 3-point gap after Mohammed’s final triple to make it 64-67 with 2:23 left. But Rafi Menco answered with a three and then Jerusalem hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 1:14 to ice the game.

CSU Asesoft Ploiesti
"It's very hard to speak and say something after such a game. We start bad and then we had to run after Hapoel for 40 minutes. My players did a good job, they scored many three-point shots, but the Hapoel made the difference at the end. I think that we missed the qualification in Ploiesti, because we won two games on the road but, here, in front of our fans, we lost too many."
GREENBERG, BRAD
Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem
"The Eurocup is one big competition and anything can happen. Tonight we took control early in the game and then we did a pretty good job stopping their centers. I am very happy for Rafi Menco. He made a decisive shot in the last minute that gave us the victory. He's a young player. For sure we'll make a good impression in the next games. We can reach second place in Group E if we win next week against Pinar."
