Union Olimpija Ljubljana picked up its second victory in Group A play at the Torneig de Básquet Júnior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet” with a 74-68 win over Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul. Blaz Mesicek scored all nine of his points in the final 1:10 minutes to secure the victory as Olimpija improved to 2-0. Jules Akodo collected 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals for the winners while Tilen Kodrin had 15 points and Vasilije Vucetic added 13. Fenerbahce dropped to 0-2 despite 22 points from Utku Saraloglu and 18 by Berk Ugurlu. Saraloglu tallied 7 points as Fenerbahce jumped ahead 15-8. Aleksandar Lazic answered with a four-point play and Ljubljana went ahead 15-16. Fenerbahce was up 21-19 after one quarter. Ugurlu and Ayberk Olmaz helped Fenerbahce push the advantage to 34-26. But Ljubljana punched back with a 0-11 run to end the first half with a 34-37 lead. Kodrin scored the first four points of the second half for eight total in the Olimpija 0-15 surge spanning the quarters for a 34-41 cushion. Olimpija would increase the margin to 42-50 before Fenerbahce trimmed it back to two points. The gap was 50-55 after 30 minutes. Saraloglu’s three-point play finally evened the game at 55-55 and it was still tied at 65-65 when Mesicek took over. He first nailed a three-pointer with 70 seconds left. He sandwiched two free throws on either side of an Ugurlu trey and then Mesicek iced the game with two final foul shots with one second to play.
