Sammy Mejia - Banvit BK (photo Banvit Bk)Banvit Bandirma registered its first win in the 2013-14 Eurocup by thrashing Kalev Cramo Tallinn 86-60 in Group G at home on Tuesday. Banvit managed to grab an important win in its first home game so far this season after six official road games in both the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Round. Kalev could not get away with a win in its first Eurocup game since 2007-08. Sammy Mejia led the winners with 15 points. E.J. Rowland and Klemen Prepelic each added 10 for Banvit, which had 7 other players scoring at least 5 points. Rowland added 8 assists for the hosts. Bamba Fall led Kalev with 16 points. Armands Skele added 13 while Vlad Moldoveanu had 10 for the guests. Drew Gordon shined early for a 7-0 Banvit edge but Skele and a jumper by Fall allowed Kalev to get its first - and only - lead, 20-21, late in the first quarter. It didn't last long, however, as Banvit found a go-to guy in Davis, who found plenty of help from Mejia and Prepelic in a 17-3 run that broke the game open, 37-24. Banvit stayed way ahead at halftime, 47-32, improved its margin to 73-46 after 30 minutes and sealed the outcome long before the final buzzer.

Mejia was the first player to score in the 2013-14 Eurocup, sparking a 7-0 run in which Gordon had 5 points. Tanel Sokk and Skele tried to change things for Kalev and a put-back slam by Frank Elegar kept the guests within 11-8. Cehver Ozer stepped up for Banvit but Moldoveanu and Skele brought Kalev even closer, 16-14. A jumper by Fall gave the guests their first lead, 20-21. Rowland and Erkan Veyseloglu put Banvit back ahead, 25-22, after 10 minutes. Prepelic and Rowland shined early in the second quarter and an outstanding Chuck Davis boosted Banvit's lead to double digits, 37-24. Mejia and a couple of baskets by Dusan Cantekin made the hosts keep a 47-32 halftime lead. Mejia struck from downtown right after the break and Gordon ignited the crowd with consecutive dunks that made it a 20-point game, 54-34, forcing Kalev to call timeout. Fall took over late in the third quarter but Ermal Kuqo and Safak Edge boosted their team's margin to 73-46 after 30 minutes. Nothing changed since that moment, as Prepelic and Kuqo buried back-to-back triples to give Banvit a 83-54 margin with 4 minutes left, giving all Banvit fans plenty of time to celebrate.

Head Coaches

Banvit Bandirma
"We had a very serious start to the game, but we had some problems on defense in the first quarter and we gave them too many offensive rebounds. We did not stop their big players in first quarter. It was obvious that when we control the game we found easy baskets. And after the second quarter, we kept control and game was almost finished by the third quarter. I want to thank our supporters, congratulate my players, and the other team for fair game. I think our group is very strong, we respect to all the teams, and we have to take it game by game in this group."
VARRAK, ALAR
Kalev Cramo Tallinn
"What can I say after this kind of game, other than the better team won. Banvit is a good team, and if your shot-percentage is very low against this kind of good team, your defeat is inevitable."
