Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir edged closer to the Euroleague Eighthfinals by beating Paris Levallois 75-85 in the French capital on Tuesday. Karsiyaka improved to 3-0 in Last 32 Group M, while dropping Paris to 1-2. Karsiyaka could potentially clinch a spot in the next stage as soon as next week when it hosts Paris. Bobby Dixon paced a balanced Karsiyaka attack with 22 points and 5 assists, while Kenny Gabriel posted 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Juan Palacios added 12 points, DJ Strawberry had 11 points and 4 steals and Baris Hersek scored 10. Blake Schilb led Paris with 20 points and 8 assists, Mike Green had 13 and 7, Sharrod Ford scored 12 and Dionte Christmas 10 for Paris, which fought back from 21 down to within 7 twice in the second half, but could get no closer.

Palacios scored three early baskets as Karsiyaka jumped out to a 2-10 start. A Dixon triple gave the visitors a 9-point lead. Christmas’s three-point play ignited a 10-0 Paris charge to lead 16-15, but Hersek’s three-pointer in the final minute of the opening quarter gave Karsiyaka a 16-18 edge through 10 minutes. Michel Jean-Baptiste-Adolphe tied it early in the second quarter, but back-to-back Jon Diebler threes put Karsiyaka back in control. Hersek’s second three made it 22-29 midway through the quarter. After Christmas made it a 5-point game, Gabriel scored 5 in a row. He and Hersek each scored 4 in a 0-11 charge that helped Karsiyaka settle into a comfortable 28-47 halftime lead.

Gabriel free throws made it a 21-point difference before Paris showed signs of life with 6 straight points. Ford closed the gap to 38-51 before a Strawberry layup. Green and Schilb continued to rally Paris, though a Strawberry slam midway through the quarter gave Karsiyaka a comfortable 42-57 cushion. Back-to-back threes by Schilb brought Paris back at 52-59. A Dixon triple and a pair of Strawberry baskets gave Karsiyaka a 55-66 lead entering the fourth quarter. Dixon scored the first two baskets of the final stanza to reestablish a 15-point margin. Paris continued to play hard and a Schilb three made it 66-75 with five minutes to go. Threes by Maleye Ndoye and Green made it 74-81 with a minute remaining, however Palacios and Strawberry secured the Karsiyaka victory.

Head Coaches

BEUGNOT, GREGOR
Paris Levallois
"We were illogical tonight in our game. We didn’t play like I wanted in the first half. In the second, the game was basically over and we were better. Karsiyaka played the way we needed to play. If we understand that, we’re going to get more open shots. "
SARICA, UFUK
Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir
"A very important win for us. Paris is a big team, but we played a great game, especially in the first half. Everybody shared the ball and that makes it easier. The intensity was the key to the game tonight. Congratulations to all my players. "

Players

ONIANGUE, GIOVAN
Paris Levallois
"We respected them too much in the first half. We were great last week against Besiktas, but not tonight. We have to win at least one game on the road and win our last at home against Klaipeda. Then we will see about qualifying for the next round."
MUHAMMED, ALI
Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir
"The goal was to win tonight. We played tougher. We played hard. I started my career in France so I know the French League well and it made things easier. "
