Pooh Jeter's free throw in the final second gave BC Kyiv an 85-84 victory at home over Lukoil Academic in Group H. Jeter made his free throw after Ryan Stack had evened the game at 84-84, and Kyiv improved to 7-2. Artur Drozdov led Kyiv with 20 points while Manuchar Markoishvili scored 13 points, Jacobs Jaacks tallied 12 and Jeter finished with 10 points. Lukoil fell to 6-3 despite a great showing by Willie Deane, who collected 30 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. And Pero Antic added 20 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort. Lukoil still can book a spot in the elimination round next week at home against Pau-Orthez while Kyiv finishes the regular season at Artland Dragons.

Kyiv went ahead first through Jaacks and Riste Stefanov's three-pointer trimmed the deficit to 6-5. But Drozdov and Jaacks took over as they combined for 15 points in opening a 20-9 lead before Marko Maravic's triple made it 23-13 after one period. Deane's foul shots began the second quarter before three-balls by Antic, Deane (two) and Larry O'Bannon pushed Lukoil ahead 26-27. Kyiv regained the lead and Markoishvili drained a long ball and Drozdov's basket made it 38-32. But Chavdar Kostov hit a trey of his own and O'Bannon's foul shot evened things at 38-38. Markoishvili's next triple left Kyiv ahead 41-40 at the break. Tencho Banev's basket gave the guests the lead to start the second half and Deane made it 43-49 with back-to-back scores. Kyiv stayed close and Jeter's back-to-back three-pointers trimmed the margin to 54-55. Jaacks's basket eventually put the hosts ahead 60-59 though Lukoil led 62-64 after three periods. Drozdov gave Kyiv the lead with a three-point play to start the fourth. After Lukoil grabbed the lead on a Stefanov triple, Joshua Davis hit a trey of his own for a 70-69 advantage. Kyiv would go up 77-72 on Vladimir Krstic's three-pointer only to see Stefanov knock down another long ball to trim the deficit to 78-77. Markoishvili's three-point play put Kyiv up 82-79, but Todor Stoykov hit a basket and Deane drained a three-ball for a 82-84 Lukoil lead in the final minute. Stack evened the game at 84-84 and Deane missed a shot and sent Jeter to the foul line, where he made one of two for the win.

"First of all I would like to congratulate my players that managed to withstand a lot of pressure in a do-or-die game and this will be a great experience for us in the future when we get into a contest like this again. We had some ups and downs tonight but we never really lost control. It’s very difficult to play defense against Lukoil – they are great shooters and you have to decide who to stop. We don’t have a lot of time to celebrate as on Saturday we have an important game against Sumy and right after it in Germany."
LUKAJIC, ZELJKO
Lukoil Academic
"We lost today during the last few seconds of the game, the same way we lost to Benetton. But I want to congratulate my players – we had a few chances to come back into the game and we did it by hustling and doing well on the boards. Keeping in mind all our injuries, I think all the success we achieved in the ULEB Cup until now was due to our hard work."

"It was a good game between us and Lukoil. We are happy that we got the W but now we have to still look at the film and see what mistakes we did wrong because we have two more important games. We will celebrate tonight but tomorrow we have to get back to work to fix the things for us to improve and be in the first place."
