Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas confirmed its great form by beating Telenet Ostend 76-83 on the road to keep a share of first place in Group B with JDA Dijon at 2-0. The visitors took the lead for good behind Ian O’Leary from downtown at the start of the fourth quarter and never looked back, keeping a slim margin till the final buzzer. Albert Oliver and Kyle Kuric contributed 14 points each, O’Leary scored 13 and Tomas Bellas 10, - 8 of which came in the last five minutes. JP Prince of Ostend led all scorers with 27 points on 10 of 14 on two-point shooting, while Pierre Antoine Gillet scored 18 by making 6 of 9 from long distance and Dusan Djordjevic posted 10.

The first quarter was very balanced with the teams exchanging leads and the score tied five times. Levon Kendall put the visitors in front 14-16 at the end of the quarter with a pair of free throws. Oliver gave a 24-28 cushion to the visitors with a shot from downtown midway through the quarter, but the home team responded with an 18-4 run to reach halftime ahead 42-32, ignited by 10 points in a row drained by Prince.

Gillet scored from downtown for a double-digit cushion, 49-39, that Prince raised to 51-40, but DaJuan Summers dunked the ball to excite his side and Oliver hit a three close to the end-of-the-quarter buzzer to make it 57-56 after 30 minutes. O’Leary opened the last quarter by putting the visitors in front and Kuric netted a layup for a 57-61 lead. Bellas’s three-pointer extended the cushion to 63-70 and Prince made a huge dunk for a 68-72 lead. Kendall and Bellas were unstoppable and accurate from the foul line, while Prince and Gillet were not enough for Ostend to get back atop.

Telenet Ostend
"In the first half we showed how we must play against quality teams like Gran Canaria, a team that is top five in Spain. But during the second half there was no consistency in our game. We missed 5 open shots and let them shoot three wide-open three-pointers. Our transition game is not good enough for this level at the moment. And they shot 61% on their three pointers."
GARCIA RENESES, AITO
Herbalife Gran Canaria
"It was a very difficult game because Telenet Ostend played very well, better that I thought, despite knowing that they have been three years in a row champions in Belgium. They played very well. The best for us was the third quarter. When we went made bad decisions at the end at the second quarter, they scored a lot. We had the serenity to play well in the third quarter and in the fourth period both teams could have won. I am happy to win here because I know it’s not easy."

“Games away are very important. It helped us a lot to win here because it was hard and we got to know each other a little bit more. Aíto said nothing special, but we talked about how our third quarters in previous games were a little bit weak and how we had to improve that. He reminded us at halftime that we had to stay strong and forget about the first half. I was on the bench in the third quarter waiting to play. I think we had a little advantage in the last quarter with the lineups that were on the court and I had good shots.”
