Green and Jackson led a 10-0 run that put the hosts ahead for good, 27-18. Venice led 36-28 at halftime and boosted its margin to 50-34 soon after the break. The hosts sealed the outcome long before the final buzzer and Ludwigsburg rallied to at least get the tie-break advantage if both teams finish the Last 32 with the same win-loss record.

Cotton got Ludwigsburg going with a quick basket which Boris Savovic erased at the other end. Adam Waleskowski finished a two-chance Ludwigsburg offense with a layup which Goss bettered with a triple to give Venice its first lead, 6-5. David McCray and Bramos traded baskets and a three-pointer by Waleskowski put the guests back ahead, 7-9. Cotton scored again and Chris McNaughton found his first points but Jackson singlehandedly kept Venice within 12-13. Benjamin Ortner scored down low and even when Alvaro Muñoz buried a three-pointer, Bramos answered from downtown for a 17-16 Venice lead after 10 minutes. Waleskowski scored again early in the second quarter but a three-pointer by Stefano Tonut ignited a 10-0 run in which Green had 4 points and which Jackson capped with a layup-plus-foul, good for a 27-18 Venice lead. Brockman rescued Ludwigsburg with a basket but Goss forced the guests to call timeout at 31-20. Goss kept pacing Venice with free throws and a jumper but Rocky Trice and and Cotton kept the guests within 35-26. Bramos split free throws and Brockman got Ludwigsburg a bit closer, 36-28, at halftime.

Goss scored again immediately after the break but back-to-back baskets by Brockman gave Ludwigsburg hope at 38-32. Green stepped up with a three-pointer and Bramos copied him right after that, igniting a 9-0 run which Green capped with free throws for a 16-point Venice lead, 50-34. Jason Boone stepped up for Ludwigsburg and free throws by David McCray gave the guests hope at 50-38. Goss and Cotton traded foul shots and Josh Owens soon restored a 54-40 Venice lead. Goss and Tomas Ress hit free throws and a put-back basket by Shawn Huff fixed the score at 57-42 after 30 minutes. Huff kept pacing Ludwigsburg early in the fourth quarter and got help from Brockman and Kerron Johnson to make Venice call timeout at 57-48. Venice found a go-to guy in Jackson, who had 5 points in a 7-0 run that broke the game open, 64-48, with over 6 minutes left. Brockman and Owens exchanged baskets, as both teams now fought for points differential. Cotton and Huff fueled a 0-9 run which brought Ludwigsburg within 67-59. Cotton and Brockman allowed Ludwigsburg to lose by less than 10 but all Venice fans had plenty of time to celebrate a well-deserved win.

Head Coaches

RECALCATI, CARLO
Umana Reyer Venice
"We played a high level game in both sides of the court with great defensive attitude and great energy. Ludwigsburg has a quality and physical team; for long times we dominated the game without allowing them anything. They survived thanks to offensive rebounds. That was a high value game, an important win for us and a great bounce back after the bad game in Capo d'Orlando. We expected that."
PATRICK, JOHN
MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg
"First of all I'd like to congratulate Venice, both its coach and players, on a deserved win for them. I also want to congratulate my players, because after a very poor 30 minutes, we did not lose our character, we kept fighting against a direct competitor. That was very important for us. We had a bad shooting day against Venice’s zone and they hit some big shots with Goss and Jackson."

Players

JACKSON, JARRIUS
Umana Reyer Venice
"We needed this win especially for our mood. It's a huge victory tonight, it gives us additional motivation and confidence for the future. We are happy about the win, even if we did not take the tie difference, we are competing to move forward to the next round. We have to transfer the good things we are doing in the Eurocup into the Italian Championship."
COTTON, TEKELE
MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg
"It was a great game, both teams came out to win it, we won at home, they beat us here. We just wanted to win. We put everything on the court today, we tried our best. We have to keep fighting, starting from the next game."
