Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar became the first team to clinch a berth in the eighthfinals by downing visiting SLUV Nancy 85-70 on Wednesday. Lokomotiv remained undefeated this season and improved to 4-0 in Group N. In fact, the team’s 15th consecutive Eurocup victory – dating back to its championship game victory in 2013 – tied Khimki Moscow Region’s record for most consecutive Eurocup victories. The loss dropped Nancy to 1-3. Lokomotiv Kuban used a 15-0 run back to open the second half and break the game open. The hosts then kept a comfortable margin till the final buzzer. Nikita Kurbanov scored 18 points with 7-for-7 shooting on two-pointers. Richard Hendrix contributed with 17 and 9 rebounds, Krunoslav Simon scored 16 and Alexey Zukhanenko posted 10 points. Sergii Gladyr scored 17 for Nancy, Vaughn Duggins 15 and Benjamin Sene 10.

Randall Falker’s put back gave Nancy a 4-9 edge at the midway point of the first quarter. He later extended it from mid-range to 8-16. Krunoslav Simon hit a three to get Lokomotiv within 13-16, but Gladyr answered from downtown to finish the first quarter at 13-19. Alexey Zukhanenko tied the game at 23-23 before Kurbanov put Lokomotiv in front 27-25. Maxim Kolyushkin capped a 9-0 run to make it 32-25 before Gladyr - again from long distance – reduced the difference to 36-32 at the end of the first half.

Lokomotiv opened the second half with an impressive 15-0 run, capped by a dunk by Derrick Brown, who contributed 6 points, as did Hendrix, to make it 51-32. Gladyr and Sene tried to keep their side alive, but Hendrix scored to make it 62-47. Florent Pietrus put 62-49 on the board after 30 minutes. Kurbanov’s foul shots gave a 74-56 margin to the home team and Simon from long distance made it a 20-point game at 79-59 with three minutes left. Gladyr and Sene again cut a little bit of the cushion before Malcolm Delaney scores the final basket for the hosts.

"Other than the first five minutes of the game, we played good today. The start of the second half was really good for us; we improved our defense and established a big lead. But I don't like the way we got relaxed; we could've finished the opponent earlier and won more than 30. Nikita Kurbanov had a great game for us, but sometimes his passes were ill advised. We got unnecessary technical fouls and sometimes tried to play too flashy, which isn't bad, but we reduced our lead from 20 to 12. Max Kolyushkin was very good, but got a little tired of his own heroics towards the end and could've been more productive. And I want to thank Kruno; he was sick for two days with high temperature, but never had any doubt whether to play today or not. "

"I want to congratulate Lokomotiv, they are a great team. Our main goal was to deny them fast break chances. When they start to run, it's really impressive. We knew we can do that because in our previous game the point differential wasn't big. The first half was good, but 11 turnovers hurt us and Lokomotiv got into their zone offensively. The beginning of the third quarter was really bad for us, when we couldn't score for five minutes and our opponent kept scoring in the fast break. Then we managed to find our aggressiveness in Benjamin Sene, who was very important for us today. We're not a very tall team so we struggled to find answers when Zhukanenko was on the court against our zone defense. We spent a lot of energy trying to guard him. I can be proud of my players; they showed their character. I wish Lokomotiv to win the Eurocup so that we can say we had two good games against a championship team. And I believe in our chances in our two remaining games. My players are proud and they can beat Valencia and Ploiesti. "

"It's a very important win for us. We've secured out playoffs spot. We didn't start too well, but then got into our rhythm and finished them off. Still we should work on our focus before the game - against strongest teams you can't allow them to take lead at the start, because you might never get back into the game. "
GLADYR, SERGII
SLUC Nancy
"Loko was good on defense and more aggressive on offense. We couldn't contain them under the rim – they scored 57% of their two point shots. Also we gave them 14 rebounds while committing 19 turnovers. I think we can beat Valencia at home and then Ploiesti on the road. The Last 32 is a success for us, but advancing further will be great result and that's our goal."
