Khimik Yuzhne held off Radnicki Kragujevac 73-68 at home Wednesday to open up Group N play with a victory. In a game that featured multiple lead changes and momentum shifts throughout, the hosts took the lead for good late in the third quarter and held on the rest of the way. Jamal Shuler, Rolands Freimanis and Paul Delaney scored 14 points apiece to pace the winners. Freimanis added 9 rebounds and Delaney also collected 6 assists and 3 steals, while Vitaliy Kovalenko scored 12 for the winners. Dusan Mladan led Radnicki with 15 points, Marko Marinovic tallied 14 points and 8 assists, Marko Brkic scored 12 and Stefan Bircevic posted 9 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.

A Matt Gatens three and Sergey Popov slam helped the hosts to an early 7-2 lead, but Radnicki came right back and Marinovic gave the visitors a 13-14 lead through 10 minutes. Back-to-back threes by Sava Lesic and Mladan were key to a 3-14 charge that gave Radnicki the game’s first double-digit cushion, 18-28. Five quick points from Shuler helped rally Khimik, which closed within 32-34 at the break after a pair of Kovalenko free throws. Romeo Travis tied it with the first basket of the second half. Radnicki regained control as Brkic scored 5 points in a 0-9 run to make it 40-46. However Khimik came back, tied it twice, went ahead on a Kovalenko layup and led 53-50 at the end of the third quarter thanks to a Delaney basket. Radnicki stayed close and was within 64-62 on a Mladan layup with just over four minutes to go. However a Freimanis three and a Travis slam left Khimki up 7 with two minutes to go. Radnicki never got closer than 5 the rest of the way.
