Meacham leads Nanterre to big road win in Izmir
JSF Nanterre stayed undefeated in Last 32 Group I by edging Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir 79-84 on the road on Wednesday. Nanterre improved to 2-0 in Group I while Karsiyaka dropped to 0-2. Trent Meacham paced the winners with 28 points on 6-of-8 two-point shots, 5-of-7 three-pointers and 5 assists. DeShaun Thomas added 17 points while Sergii Gladyr had 15 for Nanterre. Esteban Batista led Karsiyaka with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Bobby Dixon added 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, Baris Hersek added 13 points, Inanc Koc got 11 while Jon Diebler contributed 10 for the hosts. Meacham led a 0-9 run that gave Nanterre a 14-20 lead early in the second quarter. Nanterre kept rolling and a big triple by Thomas made it a 14-point game, 24-38, at halftime. Hersek and an outstanding Dixon stepped up after the break and a layup by Batiste put Karsiyaka back ahead, 47-46. Karsiyaka led 72-68 with over 4 minutes left but a rain of three-pointers - two by Meacham, two more by Gladyr and another one by Thomas - allowed Nanterre to win the game down the stretch.
Diebler and Hersek gave Karsiyaka an early 4-0 lead. Will Daniels stepped up with consecutive layups in a 0-6 Nanterre run that gave the guests their first lead, 4-6. Batista followed a dunk with a layup but Jo Passave-Ducteil tied it at 8-8. Dixon and Mam Jaiteh traded baskets and a free throw by David Lighty put Nanterre back ahead, 10-11. Koc and Diebler stepped up for Karsiyaka but a three-pointer by Meacham and a jumper by Lighty gave the guests a 14-16 edge after 10 minutes. Lighty scored again and Meacham capped a 0-9 Nanterre run with a jumper, good for a 14-20 lead. Dixon tried to change things with a layup and Batista split free throws but Meacham, Jaiteh and Gladyr led a 0-9 run that gave Nanterre a 14-point lead, 17-31. Koc followed a layup with a triple and Batista brought the hosts within 24-33 but Lisch and a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Thomas boosted the guests' lead to 24-38 at halftime. Dixon and Batista led a 7-0 run that gave Karsiyaka hope, 31-38, right after the break. Jaiteh scored again but Hersek brought the hosts even closer, 35-40. Lighty shined with a three-point play and Meacham struck from downtown but Hersek and an unstoppable Dixon made it a one-point game, 45-46. A layup by Batista completed the hosts' comeback, 47-46. Thomas and Gladur had all points in a 2-9 run to give Nanterre fresh air at 49-55. Another triple by Hersek and free throws by Dixon brought Karsiyaka within 55-57 but a three-pointer by Thomas restored a 55-60 Nanterre edge after 30 minutes. Koc and Dixon tied the game, 60-60, early in the fourth quarter. Meacham stepped up with consecutive baskets but a jumper by Koc and a triple by Diebler put Karsiyaka back ahead, 65-64, with 6 minutes left. Meacham struck from downtown but Batista and Diebler restored a 69-68 Karsiyaka edge. Three-pointers by Meacham and Gladyr kept Nanterre within 75-74 with 3 minutes remaining. Batista made free throws but Thomas and Gladyr struck from downtown for a 77-80 Nanterre edge. Batista made free throws but another three-pointer by Meacham sealed the outcome, 79-83, allowing Nanterre to stay undefeated in Group I.
