Lietuvos Rytas knocked out Real Madrid and earned a spot in the sem-finals of the Ciudad de L'Hospitalet tournament following a 94-58 win in the last game of Group A on Thursday evening in L'Hospitalet, Spain. The teams took the floor knowing the winner wins the second spot and stays in the race for the trophy and after a close first quarter Rytas took over and dominated the game for three quarters. Rytas finish Group A with a 2-1 record in the second spot while Real fell to the third spot with a 1-2 balance. Augustinas Jankaitis had 28 points and 13 points for the winners and Tomas Galeckas added 21 with five steals. Real saw Guillermo Hernan-Gomez collect 15 points and Placide Nadjikim finished with 11. Real was on top of the first quarter and with a good finish held a 19-23 lead after ten minutes, but Rytas replied with a huge 23-2 run in the first nine minutes of the second period and held a 44-30 lead at the break. Jankaitis dominated under the boards and great pressure on defense got Rytas a big gap that kept growing with as one lay-up followed another. Real, that played for the gold last year, will settle for the fifth place game. Rytas is still in the race waiting for its opponent to arrive from Group B.
