Real Madrid reached the semi-finals of the Torneig de Básquet Júnior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet” by breezing past Union Olimpija Ljubljana 65-41 to secure first place in Group A. Emanuel Cate’s 13 points paced five players with at least eight points for Madrid, which improved to 3-0. Andrej Magdevski added 10 points, Jonathan Barreiro had nine while Santiago Yusta and Andres Rico both chipped in eight. Vasilije Vucetic collected 15 points and 9 rebounds for Olimpija, which dropped its first game in L’Hospitalet to fall to 2-1 and will play in the other semi-final. The third lead change of the game gave Real a 7-5 lead. Madrid then opened leads of four points at 11-7 and 13-9 before Akodo scored four points in a 0-7 run for a 13-16 Olimpija advantage. The gap was 15-16 after 10 minutes. The second quarter was a defensive struggle as Ljubljana scored just six points and Real managed to hit for 11 points in leading 26-22 at the intermission. Rico’s three-ball opened the second half to give Madrid a seven-point lead. Vucetic knocked down a trey in helping Olimpija get to within 31-27. Barreiro and Magdevski both answered with long balls in Madrid’s 15-6 answer to go ahead 46-33 after three quarters. Barreiro hit two more treys in a 10-0 Real start to the fourth quarter for a 56-33 cushion. Ljubljana cut the gap to 19 points at 56-37 before Magdevski increased the lead to 26 points with a trey to make it 63-37.
