Khimki Moscow Region clinched first place in Group J with a 72-86 road win at Limoges CSP. Khimki improved to 5-1 and damaged Limoges eighthfinals hopes. The French champs dropped to 3-3, but will still advance if PAOK Thessaloniki beats FoxTown Cantu on Wednesday – or if Cantu wins by fewer than 3 points. Tyrese Rice scored 18 points and dished 6 assists, while Paul Davis added 14 points for Khimki. Tyler Honeycutt tallied 13 points and 7 rebounds and Sergey Monia had 10 points and 7 assists. Khimki led by as many as 13 points in the second quarter and had a run every time Limoges threatened the rest of the way. Nobel Boungou-Colo led Limoges with 17 points, Jamar Smith scored 14 and Pape-Philippe Amagou 13 in defeat.

Honeycutt scored 5 straight points to put Khimki up 2-9 before Rice heated up and made it an 8-point lead. Free throws by Adrien Moerman and Amagou brought Limoges within 14-18, but Petteri Koponen ended the first quarter with a triple for a 14-21 Khimki advantage. Davis scored three straight baskets for Khimi as the lead soared to 13 early in the second quarter. Smith heated up for the hosts and closed the gap to 26-34 midway through the quarter. Ousmane Camara further reduced the deficit until Ruslan Pateev set a 32-39 Khimki lead at the break.

After six three-pointers from six different players – three from each team – the score stood at 41-48 midway through the third quarter. James Augustine’s basket-plus-foul gave the visitors a double-digit cushion. Amagou cut the difference to 49-55, however Khimki responded with the next 8 points – 5 of which came from Rice. Boungou-Colo made a basket-plus-foul to end the quarter at 52-63. The difference remained in double figures for much of the fourth quarter. Leo Westermann’s basket-plus-foul made it 64-73 with five minutes remaining, but Monia’s triple put the visitors up 64-78 as Khimki coasted to the victory.

"Just two days ago we had a very hard game against CSKA Moscow. There was very little time to prepare for this game and we had concerns about our energy. Perhaps we were not as fast as normal, but we played smart basketball, were good tactically had had an aggressive defense. I am glad that we go to the eighthfinals from first place, because our group was very strong. Our opponent came down from the Euroleague and this transition is not always easy. Perhaps Limoges did not have enough enthusiasm and energy after taking off from the middle of the season in the Euroleague and to some extent lost confidence. I wish Limoges success. As a player, I spent one season in France. I love this country, its people, especially the local cuisine."
