Turow routs Seville on the road

PGE Turow Zgorzelec rounded a near-perfect Last 32 by downing Baloncesto Seville 76-97 on the road in Group L on Wednesday. Turow was first in Group L with a 5-1 record and will face Paris Levallois in the next round, the eighthfinals. Seville was already eliminated before the game and was fourth with a 2-4 record. Damian Kulig led the winners with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Chris Wright added 21 points while Nemanja Jaramaz had 12 and 11 boards for Turow. Kristaps Porzingis led Seville with 19 points. Alex Urtasun added 11 while Willy Hernangomez had 10 for the hosts. Porzingis and Hernangomez shined early and free throws by Alex Urtasun gave Seville a 19-16 lead. Three-pointers by Jaramaz and Mardy Collins allowed Turow to get the lead, 21-22, after 10 minutes. Turow rolled in the second quarter behind an outstanding Kulig, who got plenty of help from everyone to make it a 20-point game, 33-53, at halftime. Nothing changed after the break, as Wright and Kulig kept pacing the guests, allowed Turow to keep a double-digit margin all the way until the final buzzer.

Three-pointers by Ben Woodside, Kirk Penney and Porzingis allowed Seville to get a 9-0 lead. Kulig and Michal Chylinski answered from downtown but a jumper by Derrick Byars and a dunk by Porzingis kept the hosts ahead, 13-8. Wright, however, singlehandely tied the game at 13-13. Hernangomez stepped up for Seville and free throws by Urtasun restored a 19-16 lead. Back-to-back triples by Jaramaz and Collins gave Turow its first lead, 21-22, after 10 minutes. Wright shined early in the second quarter to boost the guests' lead to 23-29. Aleksander Czyz scored down low, Tony Taylor sank a jumper and a triple by Kulig forced Seville to call timeout at 26-36. Ondrej Balvin dunked, Kulig hit a mid-range jumper which Jakub Karolak bettered with a three-pointer for a 28-41 Turow lead. Kulig stayed unstoppable and broke the game open, 31-49. Porzingis stepped up with a fallaway jumper but back-to-back dunks by Czyz and Collins boosted Turow's lead to 33-53 at halftime. Porzingis struck twice from downtown right after the break and soon added an alleyoop layup for a 41-59 Seville deficit. A layup by Hernangomez gave his team hope at 45-59. Kulig stepped up with a triple, free throws and a put-back layup to make Turow restore a 49-67 margin. Oriola and Woodside tried to change things for Seville but three-pointers by Jaramaz and Kulig allowed Turow to get a 57-77 margin after 30 minutes. Nothing changed in the fourth quarter, as Turow used longer possessions to run the game clock down and did not find much trouble to add yet another road win.

"We stopped doing the good work we were doing since the second quarter. They took a big lead in the second quarter and tried to work hard to tie the third quarter score and lose the second half by just one point. Turow is a tough team for us, because they only have one pure center. Their power forward, Damian Kulig, is doing very well in all games. We tried some defensive situations against him but it didn't work and he hurt us a lot. We changed that after the break and controlled their offense better but all of their players are able to shoot from outside and they powered the offensive board really well. We struggled, especially our big men. That was the key to this game - the second quarter."

"Congratulation to both teams for fair play and a good game. We came here to win, we had our vision to do it, and in the end we did. It is always motivating for me as a Serbian and Spanish coach to come in a basketball country that is Spain, and represent our work. It is always nice to win here."

"It wasn't our best game. We didn't have a strong start and carried that during the game. We didn't do the things we needed on offense and took bad shots. We had to move the ball better and I believe we have to prepare our next game in the Spanish League to give 100% and try to win it."
JARAMAZ, NEMANJA
PGE Turow Zgorzelec
"It is always nice to play and win in Spain against a Spanish team. Before this game Seville won few games in a row in Eurocup and Spanish League, so we expected honestly a little more difficult match. But I think we confused them with switching on defense, we put a lot of intensity on our transition game, and I think we really deserved this win. Congrats to my teammates and the coaching staff."
