Alba Berlin notched its second straight victory in the Eurocup Group D by holding off CAI Zaragoza 71-68 at home. David Logan showed the way for the winners with 18 points while Reggie Redding and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann each scored 15 points and Levon Kendall added six points and 10 rebounds. Berlin starting center Leon Radosevic left the court limping and played only seven minutes. Zaragoza missed their final seven shots over the last 4:21 minutes of the game and tallied just one point in that stretch in dropping to 1-1 in the group. Giorgi Shermadini scored 14 points – 12 of them coming in the second half – while Pedro Llompart added 11 points and Joseph Jones hit for 10 points in a losing effort.

Damjan Rudez started the game with a triple for the guests but Radosevic collected four points as Berlin jumped ahead 6-5. Michael Roll knocked down a three-ball in an 0-6 Zaragoza run and Jones’ long ball had the advantage up to 8-14. Logan and Llompart swapped treys and the guests led 15-21 after the first quarter. Llompart again hit from long range to push the cushion to seven points to start the second period and Roll’s basket left Zaragoza up 21-28. Wohlfarth-Bottermann sparked a Berlin comeback to tie the game at 36-36. Jonathan Tabu’s free throw gave Zaragoza the lead 36-37 going into the break. The guests scored the first five points of the second half, with Tabu’s long ball making it 36-42. Redding and Logan combined for seven points in pushing Berlin ahead 43-42 and a Redding triple made it 46-44. Berlin was up 50-49 when Jon Stefansson and Pere Tomas converted back-to-back three-point plays for a 50-55 cushion. And Zaragoza was up 55-57 after 30 minutes. Shermandini scored the guests’ first six points of the fourth quarter, twice pushing the lead to four points – the second time 59-63. A Logan three-ball had the hosts back in front 64-63. Llompart’s two foul shots with 4:21 left gave the guests a 64-67 lead. But Zaragoza would not score another basket the rest of the way, missing its next seven attempts. In the meantime, Vojdan Stojanovski sandwiched baskets around a Logan trey as Berlin was ahead 71-67. Redding missed two free throws that could have iced the game with nine seconds left and then Llompart split two from the line four seconds later.

Head Coaches

OBRADOVIC, SASA
Alba Berlin
"CAI Zaragoza was a very good opponent, just as expected. They are a very well structured team on both offense and defense - they know how to play this game. I am very happy that we found our best emotions in the end and, with the help of our fans, that allowed us to take the game. A lot of things did not work perfectly for us but everybody had an impact in this game. Logan and Stojanovski scored important baskets and Redding finally found his game. I think the game was great for everybody to watch."
ABOS, JOSE LUIS
CAI Zaragoza
"It was a tough game. We controlled the game for more than 80% of it but in the end, Alba Berlin and especially David Logan made big baskets and we didn't. We did well against their full court pressure but missed open shots in the final minutes. I think we deserved to win the game but congratulations to Alba."

Players

WOHLFARTH-BOTTERMANN, JONAS
Alba Berlin
"Zaragoza is a very good team with very good frontcourt players. I think that we managed to keep them under control. Personally, I am looking for my own rhythm after recovering from a back injury. I am glad I was able to have a good game tonight."
STEFANSSON, JON
CAI Zaragoza
"German teams always play well, especially Alba. They have a great arena and great fans. I think we played well but lacked a little bit of concentration in the end. Congratulations to Alba."
