U18 CSKA Moscow used a strong third quarter to open its Euroleague Basketball ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Kaunas campaign with a 70-57 victory over U18 Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul in Group B. Pavel Zakharov led CSKA with 17 points and 9 rebounds while Viktor Lakhin collected 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks. CSKA out-scored Fenerbahce 22-8 in the third quarter. Fenerbahce was out-rebounded 51-38 and made just 1-of-14 (7 percent) of its three-pointers. Ismail Karabilen led Fenerbahce with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Saadettin Donat chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Donat used his size inside to keep Fenerbahce close early with 5 points for a 6-8 lead. CSKA went on a mini 9-2 run to open a 15-10 advantage, which was at 17-14 after 10 minutes. A Lakhin score pushed the lead to 23-18 but Karabilen knotted it at 23-23 with a three-point play. Lakhin and Zakharov both knocked down long balls as CSKA would not allow Fenerbahce nose ahead and the Russian side led 35-31 at the break. Lakhin nailed two more three-pointers early in the second half in an 18-2 run to rush ahead 53-33. Fenerbahce was not able to cut into the gap and trailed 57-39 after three quarters. After the lead grew to 20 points again, Fenerbahce put together an 0-8 spurt to make it 61-49. Denis Kovalev snapped the run with a three-pointer and Zakharov scored back-to-back baskets to extend the lead out to 68-51 and fend off the Fenerbahce comeback attempt.
