Marcelo Nicola, Petar Naumoski and the young playmaker Massimo Bulleri lead Benetton Treviso to a victory at Real Madrid's home court in a perfect last quarter that killed the Spaniards when they were thinking the game was theirs (64-75). The three former ACB players on Benetton -Nicola, Jorge Garbajosa and Ismael Santos- did a very good job for the Italian team. Nicola scored fifteen points, Garbajosa fought under the boards and Santos played his best defense to stop the best scorer on thewhite team: Alberto Herreros. Both squads showed great respect for the opponent in the first two quarters (29-30), but Naumoski didn't want any surprises. The Turkish-Macedonian player opened the way to victory for the Italian runner-up, scoring two three-pointers right after the half-time that put Benetton back in the game. But Real Madrid recovered thanks to the work of Raul Lopez and the American Erik Meek, who played his best game since coming to Madrid -seventeen points-. The local reaction put Benetton in serious trouble, but there was much still to be said on thecourt. The Italians entered into the last quarter determined to win the game and they did. Sacrificing their individual performances, Benetton played as a real team and quickly managed to build a lead that Real Madrid was unable to overcome. A three-pointer from Bulleri two minutes before the end sealed the third victory for Italian teams over ACB squads in the last two weeks.
