Alba Berlin became the only undefeated team in difficult Group H by edging Pepsi Caserta 73-79 in Italy on Tuesday. Alba grabbed its second road win in Group H and hosts Caserta again for a direct battle for first place next week. Tadija Dragicevic led the winners with 16 points. Julius Jenkins added 15, Immanuel McElroy had 12 while Patrick Femerling got 10 for Alba. Eric Williams led Caserta with 14 points. Ebi Ere added 12, Jumaine Jones and Timmy Bowers each had 11 while Fabio Di Bella got 10 for the hosts. Jenkins had 13 points in the first quarter for a 21-27 Alba lead after 10 minutes. Martin Colussi and Ere fueled the hosts' comeback late in the first half, bringing Caserta within 37-40 at halftime. Marko Marinovic and Yassin Idbihi took over late in the third quarter to keep Alba head, 58-63, after 30 minutes. McElroy, Marinovic and Jenkins shined in crunch time to lead Alba to a well-deserved road win.
Dragicevic got Alba going with a layup but Di Bella and Williams soon gave Caserta its first lead, 3-2. McElroy sank free throws and fed Femerling for
a layup but a three-pointer by Jones and an unstoppable Di Bella helped Caserta to tie it at 8-8. Jenkins followed a jumper with a big triple that made Alba
regain the lead, 11-15. Williams scored again and followed Di Bella's free throws with a layup to keep the hosts as close as 17-18. Jenkins buried his third
three-pointer while Hollis Price fed Allen for a layup and struck from downtown for a 21-27 Alba lead after 10 minutes. Allen sank a jumper early in the
second quarter but Di Bella bettered it with a layup-plus-foul for a 24-29 Caserta deficit. He didn't find much help around, however, as the hosts went
scoreless for 3 minutes. Meanwhile, Dragicevic singlehandedly allowed Alba to get a double-digit lead, 24-35, after a 0-6 run. Ere followed a jumper with a
layup but a three-point play by Femerling kept Alba out of trouble at 28-38. Caserta found a go-to guy in Colussi, who had 4 points in a 6-0 run that
brought the hosts back to life, 34-38. Dragicevic kept pacing Alba with a layup but a triple by Ere fixed the halftime score at 37-40.
Williams scored around the basket immediately after the break but Dragicevic and McElroy fueled a 0-6 run that allowed Alba to get some fresh air at 39-46. Ere downed a three-pointer and Williams got the crowd involved with a dunk but free throws by Femerling and a big triple by Dragicevic restored a 44-51 Alba margin. Caserta found a go-to guy in Bowers, who followed a layup with a three-point play in a 6-0 run that got his team within 50-51. Marinovic silenced the crowd with a triple and soon added free throws. Idbihi soon added back-to-back baskets to boost Alba's lead to 52-61. Three-pointers by Aaron Doornekamp and Colussi gave the hosts some hope, 58-63, after 30 minutes. Bowers sank a jumper early in the fourth quarter but Idbihi and McElroy combined for all points in a 0-7 run that allowed Alba to get a double-digit lead, 60-70. Williams scored down low but Alba dominated the game with long possessions, running the game clock down. A dunk by Bowers and a three-pointer by Jones got Caserta within 67-73 with under 3 minutes left but Marinovic and Jenkins shined in crunch time to keep Alba way ahead until the final buzzer.
