Promitheas Patras grabbed its second win in Group D with an 88-72 win over visiting Nanterre 92 on Wednesday. Promitheas improved to 2-2 in the standings while Nanterre dropped to 1-3 and is now on a three-game losing streak. Charis Giannopoulos led the winners with 21 points. Ian Miller added 19 and Danny Agbelese had 11 points while Vangelis Mantzaris dished 11 assists for Promitheas. Alpha Kaba led Nanterre with 20 points on 9-for-10 two-point shooting. Tyler Stone and Isaia Cordinier each added 16 points while Chris Warren scored 13 for the guests. Promitheas held the visitors to just 28 points after halftime.

Agbelese got Promitheas going with a jump hook and a dunk, then Dimitris Agravanis struck from downtown for a 7-3 lead. Warren and Miller joined the three-point shootout but Kaba dunked to keep Nanterre within 10-8. Agbelese kept pacing Promitheas with a layup-plus-free throw which Cordinier matched with a triple. Giannopoulos scored down low but Kaba had all the points, including a tomahawk slam, in an 0-8 run that put Nanterre ahead, 15-19. Nikola Radicevic and Mo Faye allowed Promitheas to tie the game, 21-21, after 10 minutes. Warren took over with a coast-to-coast layup and a three-pointer early in the second quarter, good for a 24-26 Nanterre edge. Faye scored down low and Delroy James added a layup and a dunk for the hosts, but Cordinier singlehandedly kept Nanterre ahead 31-32. Radicevic stepped up with a three-point play, fed James for a bomb from beyond the arc and scored in penetration to flip the scoreboard and make Nanterre call timeout at 39-34. Giannopoulos struck from downtown but Stone, Kaba and Cordinier brought the guests within 42-40. Agbelese and Kaba traded alley-oop slams and Damien Bouquet also dunked for a 44-44 tie. A put-back layup by Giannopoulos gave Promitheas a 46-44 edge at halftime. Agbelese and Giannopoulos scored in the paint right after the break, then Miller downed a triple to boost Promitheas's lead to 53-44 after a 9-0 run. Warren rescued Nanterre with a bomb from downtown but Miller soon made it a double-digit game, 57-47. Giannopoulos found space for a driving layup and Agravanis boosted his team's lead to 61-49. Stone and Warren brought Nanterre a bit closer, 63-56, after 30 minutes. Miller took over with an off-balance driving layup and a bomb from beyond the arc early in the fourth quarter but Cordinier and a red-hot Stone fueled a 0-7 run to give Nanterre hope at 68-61. Giannopoulos changed things for Promitheas with 8 quick points to give the hosts a solid 76-66 cushion with over 4 minutes left. Antreas Christodoulou finished a broken play with a layup and Miller sealed the outcome, 81-66, as Nanterre didn't recover.

"It is very important for us to get this victory. It is also very important to get this points difference in the game. We improved our game on defense in the second half, controlled the rebounds and stopped Kaba, who had 18 points (in the first half), getting the ball under the rim and scoring. We played concentrated, with passion, and it was a very important victory for us."
DONNADIEU, PASCAL

"First of all, congratulations to our opponents, who in the totality of the game deserved to win. When it comes to us, the first thing that we did wrong was the production for the bench, which was not good enough. Because of the weak production from our bench players, the starters had to give more and got tired. This is why we let go late in the game, kind of like we did against Gran Canaria, when we also lost in the fourth quarter after putting on three good quarters. Take the example of Isaia Cordinier: I am asking too much from him and, of course, as the game goes on, it gets harder and harder for him. Plus, he had to guard Miller and be productive on offense, which is really hard. I really need the young players from the bench to step up and bring more. Again, Promitheas deserved the win, so congratulations to them. They have not started the Greek League and had a whole week to scout us. They were very, very ready for us, and we were not as ready for them. It is a little advantage but they really deserved the win. They were really good tonight. We are having a decent season in the French League; we are 3-1, which is a pretty good start. In the EuroCup, we need to use those games to gather some experience and improve."

MILLER, IAN

"We had to play better defense than in the first half. We won the first half by 2 or 3 but we felt like we had a horrible defensive half. In the second half, we locked in a little bit more on defense, and our offense is going to come. I stayed on course, doing what my team needs, just being patient, and late in the game, it came to me, not forcing anything. My shots, my selection and everything is going to come. My coaches and my teammates believe in me, so it makes it easier for me to be patient and wait for my team to take over the game."
