Ivars Zvigurs - IJT VEF RigaVEF Riga claimed third place at the Nike International Junior Tournament in Kaunas after an 85-70 victory over Vaerlose BBK on Sunday afternoon at the Zalgirio Arena. VEF dropped just a single game the entire tournament and finished with the bronze medal. Vaerlose finished with a 2-2 record in its first NIJT appearance and considering its star Rasmus Larsen missed two games and played less than one half in each of the other two games, it can be satisfied with the result. Geks Davis led VEF with 23 points with three hits from long range and Ivars Zvigurs had 22 points. Peter Moller led the losing side with 22 points and 7 boards, David Knudsen added 15 and Rasmus Larsen had 11. VEF stormed the court from the start and opened a 23-8 gap at the end of the first quarter as Geks already had 8 points. The difference increased to 43-24 at the break, before Larsen took the court to help his teammates. With the big guy on the floor, Vaerlose stepped up and scored 46 points in the second half, but that wasn't enough to catch up with VEF and put the gap in danger.
