Vule Avdalovic - BC Donetsk (photo cibona.com)BC Donetsk escaped from Drazen Petrovic Arena in Zagreb with a thrilling 76-78 win over Cibona, thanks to 2 free throws by point guard Vule Avdalovic with just 9 seconds remaining. Now Donetsk has 3-1 record and in a good position to advance to the next round, while Cibona is still winless and looking like its chances are very close to none. Ramel Curry led four scorers in double figures for Donetsk with 16 points, Avdalovic added 14 and Michael Lee and Ivan Radenovic nailed 13 apiece. Andrija Zizic amassed a double-double of 16 points and 12 boads for Cibona, Goran Suton chipped in 13 points, Davor Kus and Antwain Barbour scored 12 apiece and Marin Rozic 10.

Radenovic scored a layup to open the scoring before Marin Rozic tied at 4-4 from the foul line. Kus hit a three-pointer to give a 7-4 advantage to Cibona. Rozic from the foul line extended the difference to 12-6. Curry tied the game at 14-14 and a layup by Darnell Jackson gave to the guests a slim 15-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter. A deep three by Curry made it 15-19 and another scored by Avdalovic put Donetsk ahead 21-26. Zizic brought Cibona back within 1 and later Barbour dunked for 29-30. Vlacheslav Kravtsov finished a break assisted by Avdalovic with a huge dunk to make it 29-36, and after a jumper by Curry, a triple from Kus fixed the scoreboard at 34-38 at halftime for the guests.

Early in the third quarter Barbour scored from the foul line put Cibona in front 42-41. Rozic scored a pull-up jumper for 44-41 and after back and forth scoring, Donetsk made an 8-0 run capped by Jackson with a dunk for 50-58. Late in the quarter, Barbour scored from the foul line to climb within 55-58, but Curry answered from beyond the arc to finish the third quarter at 55-61. Dmytro Gliebov posted another triple to extend for the first time the difference to 55-65 early in the last quarter. Donetsk seemed to be in control when Radenovic scored made it 64-70, but Cibona did not give up trying to get its first win of the campaign, and sparked a 10-4 run to tie the game at 74-74 on a basket from downtown by Suton with 1.07 left in the game. Suton put the hosts ahead 76-74 with 47 seconds remaining. Radenovic scored a pair from the foul line with 29 seconds to even things. Suton missed a crucial layup and Avdalvoic got to the line and scored the winning free throws. Hrvoje Kovacevic missed the potential jumper to tie the game at the buzzer.

"It's always bitter when you lose in the final moments of the game, but the conditions for the defeat we made earlier in the game. We needed to respond better in many situations because in the first half 11 turnovers is way too much. However, I am happy that we got back in the match and that we have seen the heart of players who can fight. Regardless of another defeat, we can leave with our heads high."
