BG Goettingen remained undefeated in the Eurocup by beating KK Hemofarm Stada 67-79 on Tuesday. Mike Scott and Dwayne Anderson scored 26 points apiece to lead Goettingen, which sits atop Group B with a 3-0 record and a game at hand. The hosts fell to 2-2 in the Group B Standings with the loss and will have another tough matchup next week against Besiktas, while Goettingen could seal its Last 16 ticket with a win against Asvel Basket. Scott missed just 3 of his 13 shots and played an impressive all-around game with 4 triples, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Anderson was a perfect 4 of 4 beyond the arc. The two dominated the game, while point guard Trent Meacham added 11 points. For Hemofarm, it was mostly Milan Macvan carrying the load with 17 points, while point guard Miljan Pavkovic added 12 and Milos Borisov and Marko Sutalo followed with 11 and 10, respectively.
Goettingen started with a 7-0 run until Sutalo scored on a pretty backdoor feed from Borisov. Hemofarm could not hit from outside and, with Goettingen taking care of business on the defensive glass, the visitors were able to get out on the fast break often and find some good looks. Goettingen attacked the offensive boards as well as Scott’s layup off a Louis Dale miss solidified a lead that expanded to double the score, 7-14, after an Anderson triple. Hemofarm tried to keep it close by getting some defensive stops, but Goettingen’s fast pace and Scott’s perfect shooting quarter was a load to carry. A tough three-point play by Ivan Maras inside eventually allowed the hosts to exhale and the second quarter was reached at 15-25. Scott didn’t slow down after the break, as he scored on a dunk to open the quarter. Hemofarm moved the ball well on offense, but Goettingen was able to close in on the shooters and the hosts could never really get in a rhythm. Meanwhile, head coach John Michael Patrick’s squad was capitalizing big time on second chances, as Scott made Hemofarm pay with a triple off another offensive board for the 24-38 margin. Mustafa Abdul-Hamid finally answered with a three of his own and Hemofarm made a push before the break, as the hosts tightened the perimeter defense and closed the rebounds better. Two free throws after a nice penetration by Pavkovic narrowed it to 36-44 when the first half buzzer sounded.
Hemofarm seemed renewed in the second half, as Borisov and Macvan both hit threes to make it a two-possession game, but Meacham’s explosive quickness in the open floor was hard to keep up with in the host’s backcourt, and Anderson capped off a perfectly run fast break with a powerful dunk that kept the visitors up by 46-52. A three-point play by Meacham again put the difference at 9 points. Another Scott triple opened things up in the final quarter for Goettingen. With the visitors playing at ease and spacing the floor well, it was another signature play by Anderson and Scott that had the later swishing a corner three after a nice penetration kick back by the first for the 52-67 score. Abdul-Hamid and Anderson followed by trading triples of their own and Anderson added a dunk before Borisov also joined the three point party. Nursing a double-digit lead with four minutes to go, Goettingen slowed the pace down and managed the clock the rest of the way, as Hemofarm put forth a valiant effort until the final buzzer.
