Dashaun Wood scored 20 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and extra session combined, as Le Mans Sarthe Basket survived in 81-74 overtime win over CEZ Basketball Nymburk on Wednesday. Victory improved Le Mans to 2-1, in a share of second place in Group A, while Nymburk dropped to 1-2. After the visitors held 32-40 in the third, Le Mans took over control with a huge 27-5 spurt for 59-45 advantage in the fourth quarter. However, Nymburk put together a 2-11 run at the end of regulation for 69-69, and Tre Simmons sent the game into overtime. But in the extra session, the hosts led by Wood pulled together, and snatched a victory. Wood shot 5 of 7 from downtown in his 30-point performance, while Vaugh Duggins was the only other Le Mans player in the double digits with 15. Simmons and Radoslav Rancik each had 21 points plus 7 rebounds for the visitors, while Dylan Page finished with 10 points.
Rancik scored 6 points early on, while Antoine Eito scored couple of times from downtown for 8-10. Tre Simmons kept the visitors with a slim lead, before him and Dashaun Wood traded triples in the final 15 seconds of the first quarter for 15-17. After a triple from Vojtch Hruban opened the second quarter, Wood hit another triple for the hosts and Vaughn Duggins scored twice to tie it, 22-22. But Nymburk answered with 7 consecutive points through Rancik, Simmons and Rasid Mahalbasic, but Duggins and Kevin Mendy hit three-pointers before halftime, cutting it to 30-32 after 20 minutes. In the third quarter, another triple from Hruban helped the visitors to 32-40, but Duggins and Wood got Le Mans' offense going, and the hosts used a technical foul for an 8-0 run to finish the quarter, taking 48-45 lead into the final 10 minutes. Wood hit back-to-back triples at the start of the fourth, and Alain Koffi followed it up with 5 points for 59-45. Page and Tre Simmons halved the deficit to 7 points, and the visitors did not got closer than that until the final minute when as Wood and Reyshawn Terry kept the lead safe. However, Rancik sparked Nymburk’s 2-11 run, also making a basket-plus-foul for 69-67 before Simmons made a fastbreak layup with 14 seconds to go, sending the game into overtime. In the extra session, Page scored four points to keep the visitors’ momentum going and 73-74, but Wood scored 7 in a row, including a triple that gave Le Mans lead for good. The visitors did not score in the final 100 seconds of overtime, and Duggins made a jumper 34 seconds before the end, as Le Mans finished the game with 8-0 run.
