Zadar bounced back from its initial road loss in Group I by downing PGE Turow Zgorzelec 85-74 at home on Tuesday. Both teams join a massive six-way tie in Group I, all at 1-1. Corey Brewer led the winners with 22 points. Todor Gecevski barely missed a double-double of 21 points and 9 rebounds, Jure Lalic had 13 points while Rok Stipcevic added 11 for Zadar. David Logan had 21 points for Turow, Thomas Kelati added 16, Dragisa Drobnjak 15 and Iwo Kitzinger 13 for the guests, who led for the best part of the first half. Brewer and Gecevski stepped up for Zadar but a free throw by Logan allowed Turow to tie the game, 42-42, at the break. A 12-0 run that bridged between the third and fourth quarter allowed Zadar to get the lead for good, 65-56. EVen when Turow got within 70-66 with 4 minutes to go, Gecevski buried consecutive three-pointers and added another basket to make all Zadar fans celebrate that their team is ready to go deep in the ULEB Cup this season.
Kelati and Logan stepped up for Turow in the early going while Drobnjak stroke from downtown to give the guests a 7-8 edge. Brewer followed free throws with a layup but an unstoppable Kelati still kept the guests ahead, 11-14. Stipcevic and Lalic helped Zadar to tie the game, 19-19, but Scekic and Iwo Kitzinger combined for 6 quick points for a 21-25 Turow edge after 10 minutes. Zadar improved its defense, while Brewer and Gecevski tied the game at 27-27. Stallworth stroke from downtown to put the hosts back ahead, 30-28. Turow managed to readjust its offense, as Kelati and Logan led a 0-6 run that put the guests back ahead, 34-36. Brewer and Stipcevic helped Zadar to regain the lead, 42-41, but a technical foul on Pankracije Barac allowed Logan to tie the game, 42-42, at halftime. Brewer hit a triple and Barac scored to get Zadar going in the second half, but Kitzinger still got Turow within 47-46. By the time Kitzinger and Drobnjak hit consecutive three-pointers, Turow was back ahead, 53-54. Stipcevic rescued Zadar with one from downtown, igniting a 6-0 run that Gecevski capped with free throws for a 59-56 edge after 30 minutes. Three-pointers by Brewer and Stipcevic broke the game open, 65-56, early in the fourth quarter. Juby Johnson joined the three-point festival, but a 0-6 run that Andres Rodriguez capped with a layup got Turow within 70-66. Gecevski took over with back-to-back triples and another basket for a 82-71 Zadar edge with less than 2 minutes to go, enough for Zadar to add its first ULEB Cup win of the season.
