Dinamo Barco di Sardegna Sassari nailed 17 triples and dished out 29 assist to down Elan Chalon sur Saone 102-87 on Tuesday. Win improves Dinamo Sassari to 2-1 in a share of second place in Group B, while Elan Chalon drops to 1-2. The hosts pulled away in the second half, after some fireworks in the first. Before halftime, there were combined 20 three-pointers, with Dinamo Sassari hitting 10 alone in the second quarter. It was 58-54 at the break, and the hosts held a 6-point lead, but Marques Green hit 3 of his 7 three-pointers in a 17-2 run that got Sassari to 93-74 lead late in the fourth quarter. Drake Diener netted 23 points on 5-for-8 triples, Marques Green nailed 7 of 9 from downtown for 21 points. Caleb Green also scored 21, while Travis Diener dished out 13 assists in addition to his 6 points. A.J. Slaughter netted 22 for Chalon, and Ilian Evtimov added 17 in a losing effort.
The visitors sunk 5 triples in the first 7 minutes. With two from Evitmov, and a triple apiece from Slaughter, Mareks Juervicus and Herve Toure, Chalon led 14-25. Drake Diener sparked the hosts’ offense with a layup and their first triple, and after 20-27 at the end of the first quarter, Drake Diener and Marques Green each hit couple of triples in the first 3 minutes of the second quarter, and Sassari grabbed 34-32 advantage. Fast pace never slowed down, and teams continued trading leads as Marques Green and Brian Saccheti nailed more from downtown for the hosts, while Slaughter hit a couple for Chalon and 42-43. Sassari answered with 4 more triples, Travis Diener hit them back-to-back, and Marques Green and Drake Diener hit one each, but Slaughter stayed hot from the outside on the other end, making his fourth triple in as many attempts, and Evtimov helped the visitors stay in range. Chalon nailed 9 triples before halftime, but Sassari hit 11, and led 58-54 at the break. A layup and the fifth triple from Drake Diener helped extended it 65-54 at the start of the third quarter, as Sassari did not allow a point for more than 3 minutes. A dunk from Clint Capela and a triple from Steed Tchicamboud showed there was still fight within the visitors. Toure scored at the end of the third quarter, and Jordan Aboudou at the start of the fourth for 76-72. But Linton Johnson answered from close range on the other end, starting a 17-2 run during which Marques Green hit three more triples, helping extend it to 93-74. It paved the way for hosts’ win. A three from Caleb Green got the hosts over the century mark for the first time in this campaign before Tchicamboud cut the deficit in the dying seconds.
