Generali Group of Trieste stayed in the hunt for possible advancement from Group C by winning 84-72 at home on Tuesday against its Turkish visitors from Darussafaka. As such, Trieste improved to 2-3 and separated itself from Darussafaka, which now is in last place at 1-4. The first home victory for Trieste came after a balanced first period. But come the second, the hometeam took the lead and never gave Darussafaka the chance to come back. Trieste had six players score in double figure, led by 15 points each from Roberto Casoli and Samule Podesta. Sinisa Kelecevic posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, Terrence Roberson netted 14 others, while Ivica Maric and Ismaila Sy scored 10 each. Acie Earl had an oustanding game for Darussafaka with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 13 fouls drawn and 4 assists, while Vincent Jones netted 16 points and Omer Kahayaoglu 11 others.

The game didn't started well for the guests as forward Leonid Yailo, Darussafaka's second-best scorer, suffered an ankle sprain almost immediately and was benched. Trieste after 2 minutes tried to escape with a 13-7 advantage on a three-pointer by Maric, but Earl paced the Turks on a 2-7 run to draw back within 15-14. Guard Ufuk Sarica tied the game 21-21 and then Sy gave the visitors a slim 21-23 advantage on a pair of free throws. Trieste rallied on a three-pointer by Roberson to lead again at 30-26. The game went on fire with buckets scored in quick succession by both team until 33-31. But the home team kept on running while Darussafaka stopped and on a dunk by Roberson, Trieste improved its advantage to 43-31. Trieste's defense had forced Darussafaka into several bad shots and turnovers, and by the time the half ended on a layup by Daniele Cavaliero, the guests were solidly in front, 45-34, on the scoreboard.

Trieste enlarged its lead to 51-35 in the first 3 minutes of the third period, but Earl led Darussafaka back to wthin 51-40. The game followed with better shooting performances from both sides, but Trieste mantained its advanatge and after 30 minutes Omer Kahyaoglu and Terrence Roberson scored to write 65-53 on the scoreboard. In the last period Trieste managed the game and Darussafaka was closer, under 10 points, just one time, at 78-69, with a free throw by Earl with 3:36 to play. From then until the finish, however, Trieste managed the lead and its fans celebrated in the stands.

Head Coaches

PANCOTTO, CESARE
Generali Group Trieste
"We finally won at home, this is very important for us and especially for our great fans. It was a hard and intense match. I think the key of the match for us was our good defensive pressure and concentration to win the struggle for the rebounds and steals. On the other side, we managed to attack wery well playing together to make always the right shots. This was only another step forward, we know our growth is not over to be competitive until the end in our group. Let me say: a fantastic and hard group."
VAKIF CIHANGIR UNER, HALIL
Darussafaka Istanbul
"The loss of Yailo for injury after only eighteen seconds was an incredible bad luck for us. We were forced to play the rest of the game with only two tall players, Earl and Jones, we didn¿t have the chance to substitute them. They had a good night, but they came to the last period very tired, while Trieste played with four big men all along the match. Moreover, we didn't manage to score as usual, because our average in ULEB Cup was 78 and tonight we only did 72."

Players

SY, ISMAILA
Generali Group Trieste
"It was not a spectacular game, but this victory lets us look at the next matches with serenity. It was determinant for us to win tonight after three losses in the competition, and we did it playing as a team, everyone helping his teammates."
KOSEOGLU, HAKAN
Darussafaka Istanbul
"We can't play as we are used to without Leonid Yailo, he's too important for our playing system. We weren't able to defend well tonight, doing it only for a while in the second half, but I think, after all and considering the injury of Yailo, we played well. Personally, I¿m really disappointed for the ball I lost trying a three-point shot when we were reducing the deficit in the last period, perhaps I could have changed the match."
