Wurzburg is now at 2-2 in third place of Group D, while Valencia drops to 3-1 record and shares first place with Banvit BK Bandirma. Wurzburg grabbed control of the game with a 19-5 third quarter run, but the visitors responded to tie the game at 75-75. Wurzburg went on to score 8 unanswered points, including triples from Dwayne Anderson and McKinney, to secure victory. In addition to McKinney, Anderson scored 17 for Wurzburg while Oliver Clay chipped in with 11. Rafa Martinez had 20 points for Valencia, while Bojan Dubljevic and Justin Doellman each scored 17.

Alex King hit a triple to start the scoring for the hosts and gave them an early advantage, which they kept for most of the first quarter. Dubljevic and Doellman opened Valencia’s account, before Jason Boone scored three possessions in a row and Anderson made it 11-7. Martinez answered with a string of 6 points, including a layup-plus-foul, to keep Valencia in touch while Doellman dunk made it 15-17. The hosts finished the first quarter with Ben Jacobson nailing a three-pointer to tie the game 20-20, while King hit a triple to start the second quarter and give Wurzburg another advantage. Dubljevic answered with a layup-plus-foul, before a basket-plus-foul from Clay and a three from Christoph Henneberger gave the hosts a 29-25 edge. Valencia regained the lead with a triple from Martinez, while basket-plus-foul from Doellman made it 31-37. Doellman followed it up with couple more jump shots, but Anderson scored 7 points for Wurzburg, including a triple for 38-41 at the half.

McKinney opened the third quarter with a three, and Rodrigo San Miguel answered the same way. Boone and Pau Ribas traded inside baskets before Thomas Kelati hit a triple for 43-49. However the hosts replied with a 19-5 run to re-take the lead and go in front 62-54. During that span, Maurice Stuckey and Martinez traded threes before Anderson hit from downtown to start a string of 10 unanswered points for Wurzburg. Stuckey capped the run with another triple for 58-52 while Clay’s layup opened up an 8-point cushion for hosts. Doellman and Martinez cut the lead in half, 62-58, before the end of the third quarter, but McKinney hit back-to-back triples to start the fourth and John Little’s dunk made it 70-60. Jacobson added a triple to the tally, but Dubljevic scored 7 points in little over three minutes, Chris Quinn hit a three-pointer while Ribas tied the game at 75-75 with a pair of free throws. Valencia had a couple more possessions to take the lead, before Anderson nailed a three for 79-75 while McKinney hit a jump shot with 84 seconds remaining for 82-75. Ribas scored a layup and Kelati hit a three to give Valencia hope, however McKinney hit another jumper and a pair of free throws to seal the deal.

Head Coaches

SCHRODER, MARCEL
s.Oliver Baskets Wurzburg
"It was a tough game, both teams brought a lot of energy to the court. Valencia played a tough game against Barcelona and had to travel, so maybe we were a little fresher. We used our energy to get the important stops down the stretch. We had something to prove after our loss in Valencia last week, where we were very disappointed with our performance in the second half. The team responded very well; everybody showed a great effort and contributed tonight. It is very nice for us to win like that, especially against a team like Valencia.“ "
PERASOVIC, VELIMIR
Valencia Basket
"We started well on offense, but had problems on defense. It was a very tough game, we had several injured players after the game; that is unusual. Our defense today was soft. We let the home team score too many three-point shots. Finally. We lost because of our defense. "

Players

KING, ALEX
s.Oliver Baskets Wurzburg
"We always are confident that we can win, finally we showed it tonight. I'm very proud of the whole team. We kept on working very hard after our losses in the last couple of weeks; today we proved what we are capable of. Our fans gave us a lot of energy tonight. The key to our success was our defense. Martinez, Doellman and Dubljevic scored in double figures, but we controlled all the other Valencia players."
