Trento makes club history in Bonn
Dolomiti Energia Trento grabbed its first-ever Eurocup road win by downing Telekom Baskets Bonn 89-96 in Group A in Germany on Wednesday. Trento registered its third consecutive win to go up to 3-1 in Group A while Bonn dropped to 2-2. Julian Wright led the winners with 21 points. Trent Lockett added 20, Davide Pascolo had 18 while Toto Forray got 14 for Trento. Aaron White led Bonn with 23 points. Jimmy McKinney added 14, Tadas Klimavicius got 13, Dirk Madrich had 12 while Eugene Lawrence dished 13 assists for the hosts. Lockett and Forray shined early, helping Trento get a 15-19 lead after 10 minutes. The guests soon boosted their margin to 22-32 and even when Madrich and White stepped up for Bonn, Lockett and Wright kept Trento way ahead, 42-50, at halftime. White stepped up after the break, getting help from Madrich and McKinney to put Bonn ahead for the first lead, 66-65. Wright and Lockett restored a 66-70 Trento lead after 30 minutes. A free throw by Klimavicius gave Bonn its last lead, 81-80. Wright and Pascolo had 4 points apiece in a 0-9 run which sealed the outcome, 81-89, as Bonn never recovered.
Pascolo and Lockett shined early to give Trento a 0-5 lead. Lawrence got Bonn going with a three-pointer and fed Isiah Philmore for a basket but Wright and Forray kept the guests ahead, 5-9. Philmore and Lockett traded baskets and Pascolo made it a six-point game, 7-13. White and Klimavicius stepped up for Bonn but Jamarr Sanders and Dominique Sutton helped the guests keep a 15-19 after 10 minutes. A recovered Michal Chylinski and an unstoppable White kept Bonn within 19-21 early in the second quarter. Diego Flaccadori and Filippo Baldi Rossi combined for all points in a 0-6 Trento run and Sanders soon helped the guests to make it a double-digit game, 22-32. McKinney buried a three-pointer and White scored again but a three-point play by Wright soon gave Trento a 27-37 lead. Bonn found a new go-to guy in Madrich, who buried back-to-back triples which Chylinski followed with another one for a 38-40 deficit. Pascolo and Lockett stepped up for Trento, allowing the guests to restore a 42-50 margin at halftime.
Forray and an unstoppable Lockett allowed Trento to get its biggest lead, 42-54, right after the break. White ignited the hosts' comeback with a three-point play and soon added a layup-plus-foul and another basket for a 50-56 score. Madrich led an 8-0 run which tied the game, 61-61, and a three-pointer by McKinney soon put Bonn ahead, 66-65. A big three-point play by Wright and a driving basket by Lockett put Trento back ahead, 66-70, after 30 minutes. McKinney struck from downtown eaely in the fourth quarter, Lockett scored again and a dunk by White brought Bonn within 71-72. Klimavicius shined with consecutive baskets that made Bonn get a 75-74 lead with under 7 minutes left. Pascolo scored around the basket, Lawrence and White hit free throws and a layup by Sutton tied it at 78-78. Lawrence buried foul shots but Wright swished a five-meter jumper and Sutton tied it at 81-81 lead with over 3 minutes left. Wright stayed on fire with an off-balance layup which Pascolo followed with a fast break basket that made Bonn call timeout at 81-85. Wright hit another jumper and a backdoor layup by Pascolo sealed the outcome, 81-89, in the next-to-last minute. Bonn never gave up but Forray, Lockett and Sanders made sure Trento stayed way ahead until the final buzzer.
