Tauras Jogela - JT Zalgiris - Final Four Barcelona 2011Zalgiris Kaunas scored a solid debut win in the 2011 Nike International Junior Tournament in Barcelona on Thursday evening, handily taking down Team China 73-46. Zalgiris now holds a 1-0 record in Group B while Team China will seek its first win the following day in a game against Regal FC Barcelona. Zalgiris will take on Crvena Zvezda. Zalgiris, in its first tournament appearance, proved itself increasingly superior to its opponent as the game progressed, but for the first 20 minutes it was still a close battle. Justas Tamulis and Tauras Jogela led Zalgiris with 14 points each with the latter adding also 11 rebounds. Zhai Xiaochuan tallied 12 points for the losing side. After 7 minutes in the game the score was only 9-6 in favor of Zalgiris, but from then until the end of the first period the eventual winners kept Team China scoreless. Tamulis scored from the arc to put Zalgiris up 22-11 after 14 minutes, but points in transition and from the foul line helped Team China to make it just a 3 point game, 26-23. Zalgiris then reasserted its dominance, scoring the last 6 points of the half to hold a 32-23 lead after 20 minutes. An active Kaspars Vecvagars along with Lukas Lekavicius helped build a 48-28 gap after 25 minutes in the second half. Jogela closed the third quarter with a lay-up at the buzzer, increasing the lead to 52-30 and taking much of the tension out of the closing quarter.
