Elan Chalon rocked the Group C standings on Tuesday by taking a huge 102-99 overtime home win against previously undefeated Krka Novo Mesto. Chalon was led by top scorer Corey Crowder, who inked 20 points, but had great team play with important contributions all around. Center Willhem Laure with 17 points, guards Dragan Vukcevic with 16, Stanley Jackson with 14 and Laurent Pluvy with 12 all made it to double figues in scoring. Krka hung on to veteran Slavko Duscak, who led all scorers with 24 points, but suffered the absence of Jamie Arnold in key minutes of the game. Boris Gnjidic added 18, Alexander Capin contributed 16, while team captain Dragisa Drobnjak scored 12. Chalon now improves to 2-3 in the standings, tied with Adecco Estudiantes and Trieste, while Krka drops to 4-1 and into a tie for first place with RheinEnergie Cologne.

The game saw the teams ver close in the first quarter through 7 minutes (13-13), but then Krka tried to make the first breakaway. Thanks to Duscak, Krka, who played once again without forward Jamie Arnold, made a 2-10 run to take a 15-23 lead, but the hosts responded with 6-2 mini run to get back within 21-25 after 10 minutes. Krka kept leads of 4 to 6 points in the second period, as Marton Bader helped establish a 26-31 edge and Marko Maravic kept it going until halftime, when the visitors led 37-43.

Its backcourt trio carried Chalon on their shoulders for a big comeback in the third quarter. The French hosts scored 29 points in 10 minutes to take a four-points lead at the end of 30 minutes, 66-62. Jackson scored the final 7 points of the quarter for Chalon, including an awesome three-pointer from half court at the buzzer. Duscak tried to take leadership of his team, and scored 20 points in 24 minutes. Despite the great effort of hosts, Krka never gave up. Great atmosphere lit up Chalon's home court. Laure fought hard beneath the baskets, but Novo Mesto found Duscak and Boris Gnjidic in the right place to recover, though Chalon still led 84-83. Gnjidic tied the score from the line, 84-84, but then Dragan Vukcevic gave a two-point lead back to Chalon, 86-84. Vladimir Anzulovic put Krka back ahead, 86-85, on a free throw, but Laure would give points and oxygen to the hosts at 87-85. Anzulovic drove inside, but Chalon center Udonis Haslem's block ensured overtime. There, Chalon took a quick three-point lead, 90-87, on more free throws by Laure. But Krka responded with a 0-6 run to shoot back ahead, 90-93, once again thanks to Anzulovic. That was the last lead for guests, as Haslem scored first and then the veteran Pluvy added the key points to take the game home, 102-99.

Head Coaches

SCHMITT, EMMANUEL
Elan Chalon
"It was a great game for us with a good end. The victory is positive for us but even if we had lost tonight, I appreciate the spirit of my players."
SPAHIJA, NEVEN
KRKA Novo Mesto
"Playing without Jamie Arnold is difficult for us. We didn't play very well tonight, with too many fouls. But I want to send my congratulations to Chalon. Now, all the teams can go to the second round."

Players

PLUVY, LAURENT
Elan Chalon
"We aren't used to win with this score. Novo Mesto is a good team also without Jamie Arnold. With this victory, we forget a little bit about the defeat in Istanbul."
CAPIN, ALEKSANDAR
KRKA Novo Mesto
"I'm very disappointed tonight. It's the first time we lose in the ULEB Cup. Our 9 of 36 in threes was determinant."
